ok, since im not posting much, ill have a minimal intro. i have a 2001 bonneville sle, and i dont really know all the technical stuff, but i really need some help. i am a do-it-yourself-er, and after my stock head unit crapped out (i think something shorted, though i dont know what). so of course i go about trying to switch the cd/tape combo deck (the lock and dock nightmare, as ive found it to be). so i get a pioneer from a friend for cheap, and install it. get the proper kit to fit the differently sized hu, etc.

to get to the point...i know i read on here before something about the issue of spacing when it comes to these lock-and-docks....basically a depth issue. ive got an amp to run wires to as well, which also makes the space issue worse.

so, ive tried searching the forums for the proper topic, but not having luck. i sincerely apologize for any sense of urgency i might imply, but i live in the middle of nowhere in SC without internet, so i only get chances to be online here and there (i feel so uncivilized).

any help would be greatly appreciated, id like to somehow get my hu to actually fit and not stick out several inches. it'* begging people to break into my car!

what model HU did you get?

I know many have cut away with a dremel in the back of the mounting hole.

I installed an Alpine in my car an 02 SE. Yes the dock and lock is a nightmare. At first what I did was unhooked the factory plug and kinda finagled it behind the dash. The fit wasn't perfect but it didn't stick out that far.

I really wasn't satisfied with the look so bought a better dash kit and dremeled out the back of the dash a little bit and it fits lots better.

I've installed stereo for a while now and I have to say none have been as aggravating as this one.

Good luck

Tim
