don't get a sony head unit :? get a pioneer unless it'* too late! sonys don't last very long and don't put out the power they say they do. those alpine subs are great but the mtx amp wont push them hard enough. It will push them until you can get a bigger amp. The upside about small amps is the clear sound instead of the thunking sound produced from big amps. I'm glad to hear another bonnie is getting a system in it. hope it sounds great. remember the sony info

please explain why a small amp gives you a more clear sound? the only way this is true is if you had a good smaller amp, then bought a horrible larger amp such as pyramid, legacy, etc.

the bigger amp the more bump thus causing you to only hear bass! with a small amp you will have bump but will still be able to have clarity. Big amps like I'ma say 1000wt and who cares wich brand will cause distortion I have owned a memphis bell and it was great but wasnt as clear as the 500wt I have now. thus I say bigger amps are for all out competition or breaking windows but if you want a great sounding system you could have both small and big amps.

ah, ok that makes more sense. just depends on how much bass you like to have. But if you like a lot of bass but can hear nothing but bass, you can upgrade your front speakers and amp those. I like to buy amps that are quite a bit above the RMS rating for what they're running so the gains can be kept low, thus keeping the sound nice and clear. larger amps are actually clearer (if they're a good amp) because they do not have to work as hard and won't clip the signal like a smaller amp will. You're more likely to blow a subwoofer with a small amp with the gains turned up, than an amp maye even 2x as powerfull, with the gains properly set. Clipping/voltage spikes destroy audio equipment, not always power.
