I recently purchased a 95 SE. It didn't come with a key fob for either door locks or alarm when I bought it so I went to the dealership to buy one and have it programmed. They ran my vin# and told me I didn't have that option.

I was a little surprised but didn't think much of it since it is an SE. Well....fast forward a few weeks. I was working on the car the other day and had the battery disconnected. When I reconnected it, the alarm that I wasn't supposed to have went off. After messing around with it a bit, I was able to get it into valet mode...so its not going off constantly.

Once I got that situation out of the way, I tore the dash apart to get to the controller for the unit. It'* a Goodwrench system but judging from the way it was placed under the dash, I'm assuming it didn't come with the car from the factory.

I took pictures of the unit and am trying to determine what exactly it is. I called up my local dealer and they weren't much help at all. I'm kinda hoping that one of you may be able to tell me what this is (part #, if possible) and what my best bet is for locating a key fob. Thanks in advance for your help.

That'* a new one on me: I've never seen a Goodwrench alarm system like that before. Oh, well.

I can see an FCC ID showing on that large sticker on the box. Maybe you can use that to match it to a compatible key fob (maybe Googling for it will turn something up).

It also seems to me that it'* not likely to be too far removed from a factory keyless-entry system, and may well have been made by the same supplier. Thus it wouldn't surprise me to find that a factory 1995-compatible key fob would work, although you might have to do some sort of fiddling right there at the control box to get it into learn mode, as opposed to the usual routine of jumpering a couple of ports on the ALDL connector or something like that.

well aperently these are the GM alarms used.... (in the imapala... i dont know if they would be the same for the boneville.....)

Well, here are the features that appear to have come with my system:

Ear piercing siren (is there really any other type?)

lite touch adjustable shock sensor (has a plug on the controller which is hooked up to a wiring harness)

dome light illuminates for safe entry

remote trunk open (no interior trunk release button but the trunk release is wired)

emergency manual override (if this means pushing the button under the dash and turning on the key to disable the system, I have this as well)

audible "chirp" to signal if alarm is on or off (experienced this when I reconnected my battery...just prior to the alarm going off)

starter kill lockout

flashing red warning light indicates system is on.

parking lights flash


To your knowledge, were any/all of those units available in 95? I'm assuming this alarm was probably installed at the dealership just prior to delivery and did not come off the line with it installed. The reason I'm assuming it was installed shortly before/after delivery is because the wiring harness for the alarm is dated 4/28/95. Just a guess though.

Vehicle security apparatus


Abstract
A vehicle security apparatus includes a portable transmitter generating at least one discrete coded signal. A receiver mounted in the vehicle in response to the first receipt and recognition of a discrete coded signal from the transmitter arms an anti-theft system in the vehicle security apparatus. The anti-theft system includes a starter interrupt which prevents the starting of the vehicle when the anti-theft system is armed and/or alarms, both visual and/or audible, to indicate an attempted access to the vehicle. The receiver is capable of learning one or more codes associated with specific transmitters. A sensor is mounted on the vehicle to detect attempted access to the vehicle. The receiver, when armed and receiving an output from the sensor, activates the starter interrupt and/or the alarm for a predetermined time. The receiver is optionally capable of automatically operating the vehicle door locks, the vehicle hood latch and trunk latches, as well as the inside vehicle lights automatically during the arming and disarming sequences.

That alarm is manufacturered by Code Alarm. These were usually offered as dealer installed options under the Chapman brand name. An older Code alarm 2 button remote will work with this unit. The newer remotes are 433mhz and will not work.

As for programming instructions, you can contact the manufacturer www.codl.com. Hold time usually sucks but the people are typically helpful.
