i'm trying to get my front drivers side speakers working, and the speakers and their harnesses are fine. I believe it'* the wire between the radio harness and the door possibly. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't wanna run new wire......But i will if i have to.

well you can try and run a piece of wire from the stereo ( take it out ) and the door speaker ( take it out) and see if that works. That way you won't have to run it through the dash just kinda like a jumper wire for testing pruposes. I have the same problem with my drivers side speaker, and once it gets warmer I will be testing it that way also.

well i see it connect in the dash in a few places by the door, but after that i can't see it till the harness for the radio.

Yeah, just take the speaker off the door and go before the main connection ( it should split after that), and take the head unit out of the dash and just find the main connection for one side and tap in from there. Know what I mean?? Don't worry about were it goes after that, just direct from the head unit to the main ocnnection on the door speaker, not sure if your'* is different than mine but I have one connection from the head unit to the door then it splits at the door for the different spseakers.

try hooking up a different speaker to the wires. maybe speaker is dead. my wifes speakers in the back of her jimmy didnt work when we got it. both speakers were fried.

Second that... I'd pull the door speakers and test them for continuity; they may be blown after all.

Actually before you disassemble anything, start the radio playing, slide the balance/fader controls to the driver'* side so you'll hear the problem speakers clearly if they come back to life (even momentarily), leave the driver'* door open, grab the wiring harness in the black accordion-pleated rubber housing where it jumps the gap from door pillar to door, and wiggle it and twist it however you can.

If the speakers cut in and out, that'* where the problem is. It'* the most likely spot since none of the wiring has to flex at all anywhere else. If so, the rubber flexy piece in the door jamb has plenty of room in it for more wires, so you can thread a couple of new ones through it and bypass the broken leads that way.

If that doesn't turn up anything wrong, start at the back of the radio, make sure it'* actually putting out a signal on that channel (do _not_ skip this step; rig up a spare speaker if necessary), then progressively work your way outwards towards the door until you find where the wiring goes dead.

My guess in order of likelihood here is:

1) Broken wire(*) in the door jamb
2) Bad connections at the stereo
3) Blown speaker(*)

I've decided to run newer wire, it'* already stripped and the Pearl was sitting in the garage while i took the GMC to work. The length of wire is the problem.

The speaker set never worked in that door with either head unit.

The speakers played (still in the door panel) on my hifi setup.

Another speaker did not work on the door outputs. I'm running a thicker wire (it'* 14 ga i think) to the door, and then using the existing connectors to split it into the speakers.

It was the wiring. Ran new stuff to the door, and split it into the factory stuff. Did't get my window switch harness on all the way i think, and now they don't work.... :?

LIKE I SAID check the wire. Go figure a few butt connectors and a chunk of wire, maby 10$ ( at most) later it is good to go. No need to go out and buy new speakers.


Glad you got it fixed, time to fix mine now when I get a chance ( when it gets warmer).
