Maymybonneliveforever,

This hobby isn't cheap. And once your in it..you get hooked. MORE BASS!!!

If you do not want to go with the plug-n-play equipment, then just start shopping for a sub and box combo and find a good complimentary amp. Most of the speaker vendors have subs and box they sell together. Usually these are great combo'*, because who know'* there speakers best to build a box, yep..the manufacturer. But boxes can be built better..dont get me wrong..based on your needs.

Then get yourself a decent amp. If you can do the installation yourself, you'll save big bucks. I am not handy in the car..so I have to pay for the install.

Ebay is a good source, if your a savy ebayer and know what your doing.

I do have to agree with the others.. $350 is pushing your options to bare minimum, $500-$600 gets you better options.

Personally, if you can afford it, my preference is Rockford Fosgate all around. And some good deals can be found on Ebay. CarDomain.com is having some good sales too. I just picked up a RF 450.4 for $189. Normally goes for $250+ elsewhere.

Anyway..good luck.

you dont realize many people spend well over 2,000 on their systems. I've talked to people who'* totals for parts and materials were over 30,000 with the list still growing, and that is low (very low) for some vehicles)

If I added up the mount I have spent since highschool on car audio it would probably be in the range of 1600-1700 US.

If he wants something that will make his friends impressed, pound his head and find all the rattles on the car, 350-400 can do it. You just have to do your research and pick wisely. If you want people to hear you clearly from a few blocks away you would need to spend atleast double or triple the 350-400. But at that point you should invest in hearing aids too.

If you want some help installing this this summer as well I can help ya out, I've got sub installs in a Bonne down pat.

There'* a couple eBay sellers in the markham area who have really good prices, and VERY cheap UPS shipping for the weight and size of the items.

These guys have Pioneer, and Infinity and Rockford:
http://search.ebay.ca/_W0QQsassZhtdeelsQQhtZ-1

These guys have Pioneer, Infinity, Rockford, and MTX:
http://search.ebay.ca/_Car-Electroni...QsassZeldirect

Usually works out to $10 US shipping, which is amazing for UPS and the weight.

I built my system for very little, all thanks to the beauty that is eBay , and ask the guys that have been in my car, it'* serious. Not RIDICULOUS, but serious.

If you can do wood work (well MDF) you can save a ton of money right there.

Talk to local people who have stuff for sale, hit up used equipment, as long as it wasn't abused, used gear isn't bad, especially amps.

Hell, i have two 10" JL'* i need to get rid of...

Ya know what I just thought of. I'm going to be selling my COMPLETE system probably in the next couple weeks, and I'm probably going to be seeing you soon, and I think my system meets your needs, and I know it meets your budget.

Tell me if you're interested, and we'll work something out.

The W0'* from JL audio are good. They are the "budget" subs but sound damned good really. MUCH better than Cerwin Vega.
The thing is, it is going to be hard to get much for $350. Unless you want just one sub.

I would say kind of decide what you really want now, instead of blowing money on something "to get by".

And with wiring, you don't need something ultra-fancy but don't use puny wires.

The capacitors - don't waste your money. They will try to talk you into buying this overpriced, unnecessary component. You won't be needing it

New VS used - Think of this - if it is used, someone has probably played the **** out of it, as some folks like to drive their subs to the max. You cannot really tell if the subs are about to burn out until you crank it once and the things smoke and freeze

Wiring and connections- it isn't cheap. I would say count on spending a good $50 for that alone.

Most important like I said - really decide what you want, and if it wil be in your budget anytime soon, be painfully honest. MAybe what you really want cost about $600 for the setup. Save until you have it. I once spent $200 on a sub/enclosure only to discover it was not what I wanted. I think I ended up selling it to some hock shop for $30. :?
