Debating panasonic hu
well im thinkin of updating my hu during the summer and so far this is the best candidate
any experiences...do u like it??

very nice hu pioneer has and does make better but if that all you can afford than good job cause at least it isnt a durabrand or sony xploder

well most of the reason y i picked this one is because of the cosmetics, it would match my interior lights pretty well so thats my main reasoning behind it...

Pioneers are among the best in the price ranges they go for. That is the HU I will be purchasing DEH-P580 or DEH-P5800 depending on how cheap I can get a premire.

The main reasons should be sound quality and overall expansion capabilities like 3 sets of 4 volt outs, Aux input, and overall features. At least thats what I look for when buying HU'*, but Pioneer is a good brand that sounds great and usually has some nice features

I briefly considered that model, but decided against it, and I'm having a Pioneer DEH-P480MP installed *today*. The 480 is the Premier Series, the DEH-P4800MP is the non-Premier series and I swear they're exactly the same thing, but the Premier carries a 2 year warranty -vs- 1.
Reasons I decided against the 5800:
(1) The red lighting is good, because you think it will match your car'* interior lights, but the rest of the "organic display" is all blue. To me, this cancels out the advantage of the red lighting. I'm upgrading to the P480 from a Pioneer DEH-P76DH, which has many different color lighting; orange, green, blue, but is mostly green; and it honestly doesn't bother me at all, I thought it would, but it doesn't. It just sort of sets the radio apart.
(2) The primary reason I'm changing head units is for better iPod control, and one review of the 5800 on Crutchfield'* site put the 5800 out of the running for me. I'll quote part of it for you here:
I'm getting the Pioneer CD-IB100 iPod adapter with my DEH-P480MP, so I should have good iPod functionality compared to the 5800. If I'm wrong, I'll dump it for a 6800 or something.

The iPod , though, control is UNBEARABLE with THIS unit. Rather than using the rotary **** to mimic the iPods click wheel, you are forced to scroll through songs/artists/genres/playlists using the arrows. This doesnt seem like it should be a huge problem, but each time you push the button to advance to the next artist or playlist, the 5800 loads the first song in that list. It makes scrolling through a large music library maddeningly difficult since it attempts to play every song you pass. Going from A to J in the alphabet , for example, would take MINUTES rather than the two seconds iPod users are accustomed to.
Also, the head unit locks the iPods screen making it impossible to manually choose a song from your iPod unless you unplug it, start the song you want, then plug it back in to the deck which THEN requires that you push the source button twice to bypass the Tuner and CD controls.
Additionally, the display only shows the first EIGHT CHARACTERS of either the artist or song at once and doesnt alternate between the two. It doesnt scroll the name or title at all which, for an iPod user, is incredibly frustrating.
