power antenna to fixed mast
I want to put one of the fixed mast antennas on my 93 SE, but one of the newer GM "car wash" antennas, the ones that dont need to come off in car washes and whatnot. I currently have the power antenna and do not like that it goes up and down every single time I get in and out. Im going to the junkyard tomorrow to see if I can find one, any one know what extra peices I might need?
I might consider just running a toggle switch if the newer antenna doesnt work, so I can leave it up until I need it to go down, like carwash or whatever, like what a lot of other car makers did. To do that, I would have to run the switch on the blue antenna wire, and nothing else right? or would it have to be a different way?
Thanks for any insight given

the antenna stays up when power is present on the lead wire, so if you add a switch you will only be able to bring it down when you want... get yourself a different supply for power to the lead and you con control it fully.

Thats what I was thinking, but if the blue wire gets flipped off while the antenna is still up, it has no way of getting power to it anymore to make it come back down, right? Thats the way it was on my GTA, the power wire was cut cause the antenna like to jam up on the way down, so I left it up permanently...
Thanks

Just for you, I went out to the car. Looked at things, and got out my factory service manual for the 87, I know the antennas are the same exept for the mast itself and the mount bracket. So.... On the antenna there is a relay nearby, there is a pink wire. That'* the key here. That is the signal wire for the antenna, If you switch that wire the antenna will stay in whatever position it is in.
