What determines the resistor, I don't really know, and got kind of confused when I was reading the other posts.... :? Thanks!

Do you like algebra?
For your car, use
R=(12volts -LED voltage required)/(current in milliamps)*1000
R will tell you the resistor that you need.

On my PC i have some BIG 5mm LEDs with 285ohm resistors. I was actually looking at playing with some LEDS inside. If you have 4 LEDS in series, you can run them off 12v straight most of the time.
