New aftermarket CD player (PLEASE help)
first off, i just wanna say i dont know much about audio systems, so bear with me..... i have a '97 SSE with the stock Bose dynamic equalization system in it, but im looking to get a different cd player for the car. the one i have right now doesnt play the burnt cds i have and i need something that i can plug my mp3 player into. im not planning on spending a ton of money and ive been looking at circuit city to get a deck installed. i have one picked out but everytime i go back there they give me a different price for what im looking for. as far as installation and they say there is a bunch of problems with installing a new deck because my entire car would need to be re-wired and that my speakers would not work with a new deck. ive now gone to a few different places and have gotten conflicting answers from each one and i am just wondering what to do...... any help is greatly appreciated!

When I was shopping for a deck for my car I liked the Pioneer 6700, but I happened to look up and see the 6600, last years model, for $100 less just because it couldnt play MP3 cds. Long story short I got the 6600 and I have plugged in my MP3 player to it. Look at my "iPod direct connection" to see how I did it, it cost about $30 and works with anything that has a headphone jack.

2000+ has the wiring issue IIRC....Tell Circut City to learn something. Second, tell them to give you one final price. Thirdly....Buy a deck that can play MP3'*. Definantly worth the extra money. I have one CD with 172 songs on it, I put it on repeat...and don't touch the CD for at least a month.

Kokid... I did this exact swap myself. It is pretty easy and straight forward. I looked around for a head unit aka deck and then started my price research. I found Ebay to be the cheapest route. You can pick up a connector from your local auto parts stores to connect directly to the factory harness w/o cutting your car wires. Also you can get a universal mounting kit for it.
Connector is probably about $8, mounting kit could be up to $20. If you wanted to retain steering wheel controls you would add a PAC SWI at about $50-65
I documented most of my process here when I put this stereo into my 95 with gain slider.

Then I moved it into my 97 here

The only real thing about the 97 to keep in mind is there are two connectors on the back of our head units. One is the main connector and the second is a single orange wire for power to the bose system.
Please ask any questions you have...
