After much searching, went with the Nakamichi NA87 Digital media receiver to replace the OEM radio in the 1998 S10. I decided no need for a cd player anymore- having a USB, aux in, and SD card port in front was the way to go.

It is really hard going through all the digital media receivers. They all have tons of features, but the reviews say they are really complex to use the features. I selected ti NA87 primarily because the face looked much more user friendly compared to Pioneer, JVC, etc. With the required installation accessories, Crutchfield came in a few dollars less than Amazon.

The reason I am replacing the OEM radio is most of the lights have failed on it, and three of the **** have fallen off. Replacement *** set is around $60, and then I would have to take the radio apart to repair the burned out lights. Figured it was better to just get a aftermarket replacement unit.

Hopefully will arrive this week and install next weekend.

Though, IMO, I think you should have gone with the Kenwood/Sony/I forget the brand, at Walmart for about $120. Comes with matching speakers for the front doors. At the same time, I understand for who its for. So, cool either way!

even the name brand stuff at walmart is not the same. i have not heard from nakamichi before. but i have bought a ton from crutchfield, they are awesome. they used to only sell higher end stuff though and give free shipping and install stuff on things higher than 120. must have been getting beat by amazon and sonic electronics.

Not a bad deal for that, I also have not heard of nakamichi, and probably would have went with Pioneer, Sony, or even Alpine, but looking at the other decks at that price, that ones has a bit more power, either way it was not a bad deal.

I checked out the radios at Wal-Mart last Sunday. They only had one that DID NOT have a cd player, and it had a lot of hard to program bells and whistles. Its face was hard to figure out.

Two items attracted me to the Nakamichi NA87. One was the face looked simple to use. The other was it is a new product, released just a few days ago. Hopefully the radio has some better features as digital media receivers are somewhat new to market. One thing I did not like about this receiver and most lower priced aftermarket receivers is a lack of adjusting for day and night driving. This receiver will likely be to bright during night driving.

I bought the same looking radio just under a different name off of Amazon. I paid $49 for the factory wire adapter, install kit and the radio. Radio sounded really nice. It went with the car I sold. Should have keep it, but it help sell the car. Yep CDs, tapes are a thing of the past. You can download 1050 songs on one USB thumb drive. I used the Aux input for my Iphone.

CD'* are almost a thing of the past now. 99% of my music is on my phone in which I carry everywhere and can play directly to my Pioneer HU in my truck via Bluetooth. I can also check for codes via Bluetooth with my phone also. Too bad I couldn't... oh nevermind.

A few notes-

Radio is super easy to install. When installed with the METRA OEM wiring harness, all the wires flawless match be color code and label. Does not get any easier (picture of harness below).

The radio feels cheep. It is super small, super easy to operate, but feels cheep. I also think more features are typical of these non cd receivers. If I was to do this again- I would of purchased the Sony.

i paid 130 for the sony i put in my yukon, its a pretty decent quality unit. it has a cd,usb, HD, aux, and sounds very good with the stock speakers. and if if you get them from crutchfield or sonic they give you all the adapters and wires, and free shipping.
