Default Alpine CDA-D852/D853 a quality unit?

Anyone know if these are any good? I cant seem to locate a new one, anyone know where I could find one?

I want to replace my factory CD player but I really want it to be the same fit and I was told this apline deck was the best. I remember years ago seeing two different brands for the GM /chrysler fit decks but I cant remember who the other one was.

*edit after a quick ebay search it looks like the pioneer DEH- 45DH/P47DH/P77DH will all fit perfectly as well.

I would appreciate any feedback or experiences anyone could give me about these.

Thanks

I have been using 6000 series single DIN pioneers in all my vehicles the bast 3 or 4 years and honestly all the features are beginning to be a pain in the ***... and I really want a unit that fits the opening in this car. My very first aftermarket deck ever was a single DIN Pioneer in my familys old 96 Buick and I always wished I had gotten one that fit properly.

Well, I managed to track down a Alpine CDA-D853 so before too long I can tell you how it works out. I can say that what little bit of those humount kits I can see on the website do look impressive- if the DIN-and-a-half dosent work out, I might just get a single DIN alpine and one of those kits. I think I am getting tired of pioneer.

Hey BillBoost did you get the kit that had the red lights with it or just the regular one? Also if you could post some pictures of how it looks, that would be awesome becuase im interested in getting one but the picture on the website is hard to see because its taken in the dark.

OK, Ill have my head unit in here soon and I have a couple questions- I have done several stereo installs in the past and was wondering are there any surprises I should be on the lookout for or is this the run of the mill install?

My gain slider dosent work, does that mean the factory amp has already been bypassed?

I am trying to nail down everything I need to do when the time comes.

The gain slider not working probably means the amp power for the amp that controls it..probably isn't being powered up.
