Remote Starter
I had ABC install a remote starter yesterday on my car and am having problems with it. Before I went back to them with the problems I thought I would post here and see if anyone can point me into the right direction as to why this is happening.
First I bought the Python 1400XP - for my 2005 SE Bonneville it needed the P3 bypass, then I wanted to only have to carry around ONE key fob, so I had them hook it into the Door Locks and also trunk release.
When I picked it up the installer showed me everything worked, the doors locked / unlocked - the trunk opens just fine.
This was until the car was started, once started none of the extras work. The installer said it had to be some thing in the car stopping it from happening while it was running, he said to unlock it before starting it. !#~@~@~@@$
I got home and did some more testing. Sure enough, everything works with both new fobs except while it is running.
The kicker? If I use the factory key fob, I can lock, unlock open the trunk while it is running.
So I don't know what would block this second fob from working while running when the factory one can. I do not want to carry two of them around and need to be able to open my trunk lock and unlock my doors like one would expect. I do not really want to take it back (have it uninstalled) unless that is the only answer. They have a "add - on" starter that uses my factory fob but that wouldn't give me the extended range.
Anyone have any idea'*? Thanks![/code]

what brand of remote start did you get installed? It might just be something with the brand of starter you got. BTW, I'm also getting a remote starter installed today. It'* taking Best Buy 8 hours so far and they're still not done.

Python 1400XP by Directed. ABC is going to be calling Directed tomorrow to see what they suggest. The tech knew the factory would work as its a separate system.
So we'll see what happens. I know it isn't going to work like this. :(
Let'* see, I dropped mine off Saturday around 11:30 AM and picked it up around 3:00 PM, although there was another car already being worked on when I got there. I don't think it took them long at all.

I did some thinking and remembered that our cars don't allow us to lock the doors with the power door locks if the car is running, or the key is in the ignition to prevent you from locking your keys in the car. Have the car running with the doors closed then try your new FOB. Will the doors lock then? If so, I'm not sur ehow to get around that, other than by going around the factory alarm (and disabling it.)

Sounds like they didn't wire it correctly to interface with the factory alarm.
They probably didn't tap into the wires in the correct location or they didn't program it properly.
If it is wired correctly you should only need one remote.

Sounds like it, the tech said something about having to go into the door module after he discussed it with Directed and they discussed it with someone else.
Not sure what exactly that means but it should be working tomorrow PM!!
Thanks everyone!

Ya thats what I figured.
I'm a professional installer myself & I can tell you from experience, that the newer a vehicle is the less info there is about it, wiring diagrams etc.
It takes a while before the wiring diagrams become available and accurate. The more installers in the field work on the same vehicle the better the info becomes because it has been verified & perfected multiple times over.
I figured that the installer had a hard time finding the correct wires or that the info was not available. He probably based his install on a 2004 Bonne wiring diagram or from previous experience with the older Bonnes.
I'm sure they will fix it, it should only be a couple of wires to change,

Kind of helped....
He switched something around, the light that was "kind of" on when the car was running now isn't.
So this is where we are at...
The remote works after the car has been remotely started.
The remote sets off the alarm if I unlock and open a door before the car is started
The remote does NOT work once the key is in the ignition and the starter has been deactivated.
This has just been a PITA, not to mention when I went to get it fixed this past weekend I had to wait along with anyone getting something installed (first come first serve) - that seems a little odd in regards to customer service.
I am pretty certain I am just going to go with the factory add-on kit. This has been too much work for the money spent and I still don't get what I want - only to carry 1 fob...

Never mind that last comment, talked to the installer he said this is a new module and it doesn't always work like it is supposed to so he is going to wire up a disarm to the factory system from the remote starter.
Simple job, should take care if it... I HOPE..
