well, I think I've decided what I'm going to do. I'm going to leave 6x9'* in my rear deck for rear fill and add some 8" woofers to the rear quarter panels. Only thing now, is I need to figure out the area I'm working with. I'll be using some home-audio woofers in this setup as the only 8" speaekrs out there for cars are subwoofers and that'* not what I need.

Right now I"m looking at either Dayton audio or pioneer maybe. Not sure yet.. First I have to figure out how to seal off that panel so that it'* closer to being a "sealed" enclosure. I'm guessing some sheet metal maybe? I planned on making that lower hole larger to accomodate the woofer and moutning it to probably a 10" X 12" MDF 1/4" board.
any other suggestions/ideas with this setup?

Wow dood. You're looking at some heavy work there. What'* the door panel look like on the back doors? I'd suggest DIY fiberglass since it'* much easier to work with then sheetmetal, and will sound better.

Just curious, why the 8"*? Going for more mid-bass? If that'* what you're after, a 4 way amp, and good components and 6x9'* you'll get a great sound... Just putting baffles on the speakers you have will help with mid/midbass a lot.

its sound like a tough project but i would either have to find a sub that needs very little space or a free-air cuz most need room to make noice. i could be wrong but still i would mount then in the back deck.

here'* the picture of the rear quarter panel with the panel installed. There is going to be plenty of space between that panel and the speaker. probably a good 3 inches or so.


I want to go with 8'* because they're giong to have more bass output then just a pair of 6x9'* are going to have. BTW, the 6x9'* I am going with are the Infinity Kappa 2-way 6x9'*. I'll be running them off of a 250 W RMS amp.

I think i could help you out a lot in this area. Ive done stuff like this before. Im me some time and i can show you where you can get some inexpensive speakers with a shallow mounting depth that can still perform.

THat would work, however, you want a lot of the higher freaquencies to be up front. Your looking for something, in your situation, that should only play from about maybe 100 hz to about 40 hz and thats it. You should try to find something designed to play lower freaquencis, but as far as the physical peramiters go, u should be good.

the koda 8 looks like something that would look better. http://www.adireaudio.com/ I have a set of koda 6s and trust me these are some excellent speakers, their motorstructure design makes them one of the clearest sounding speakers out there for thier money. I highly reccomend something like this.

I don't think that you're gonna like how it looks. There'* no flat spot for an 8" woofer, so you're gonna have to angle it or do some very hard fiberglass work. I think you could do other things with stock locations.

But i'm not a fan of adding more speakers to fix something.

Fiberglass work isnt hard once you get the hang of it. Dont expect to get it right the first couple of tries, I spent months on mine and they still arent quite what i want asthetically. The hardest part about this will be integrating it right so that it looks like it belongs. Just out of curiosity, why dont you just get subs and do this the regular way?
