Default TERRIBLE crackling, hissing, static

So this is wonderful. I am driving home from the airport and notice there is this awful hissing/static/crackling noise coming from both speakers of my right channel, the noise is loud and does not change with the level of the volume. When the noise goes away, which it does every few minutes, it takes the signal with it, the right channel goes dead altogether.

Sounds like the radio crapped out. Is it stock? Are you willing to switch to aftermarket?

Is there anything that I can do to it if I take it apart? since I regularly service computers and electronics, just wondering if theres anything i can replace or something? Or is it necessary to replace it altogether?

You could try. It could be anything though, could be an output transistor or some little resistor or capacitor somewhere. If you arent worried about breaking it then you could try. If you know what your doing then go for it, but I think youde be better off getting an aftermarket deck, or just finding a factory replacement. Do you have the tape deck or the cd player?

Hah, its an LE bud. Standard UM6 Tape.

Wouldn't hurt to find a nice CD one from an SSE tho

I am deciding against taking it apart, probably wouldnt help.

Currently, interestingly enough...when its been off for a while, the static is LOUD, and does not change with the volume control, but after a few minutes of being on, it subsides to a quiet static, not completely going away, but tolerable. Good thing is, since it doesnt change with volume, you can drown it out WITH music, which makes absolutely no sense to me, but hey.

Anyone know of a good cheap HU i could get? I'm thinking I might stick stock.
