Default how do i stop my taillights from rattleing

hi i have a 1988 bonneville sse and i put fatmat in my trunk.. and for some reason my tail lights and my license plate holder still rattle. can any one tell me how to stop this rattle. i still have alot of fatmat left and i thought about taking out the tail lights and license plate holder and putting fatmat on the frame behind all three peices them putting tail lights and license back. or should i just spray some great stuff expanding foam behind all three peices or will this permeantly bond themn to the car.? any advice will help as the rattle is bad...

expanding foam will destroy your lights, 99% certain...

i would take out all the lights and put the fatmat behind them.. then re-install them making sure they are seated correctly and torq'd to spec

some times these things can be fixed easier than you might think. Is your license plate holder rattling or the license plate? I shoved a shop towel behind my license plate and screwed it in and it doesn't rattle at all. Sometimes it is just that easy, and didn't cost a ton of money, just an old rag.

Default yeah

its the tail lights and license plate holder. not the license plate it self..i tightened them as much as i could from in the trunk but i think the plastic nuts that hold them cant be tightened to much. or they will break.

hmm i dont know if this would work but i have used window seal foam tubes (weather stripping) that are in various diameters at the hardware store to wedge in some places to fill in gaps, I am not sure if this would help in your application but it helped me better seal my trunk lid to stop a lot of the rattling where the trunk lid met the body.

honestly, I would just say use as much sound deadner behind your lights as possible. I pretty much did the same. If you put more sound deadner on your license plate and tighten the holder onto it more that should fix the problem
