I plan to do that EXCEPT I'm going to add in a switch that turns power to the key on and off. So keep the key in to ON position 100% of the time, then flip the switch and push the button.

Flipping the switch is like turning the key to the on position and the button is starting. Flip the switch again, and the car shuts off. Perfect

First what I don't like about Raptor'* is that the switch is handling a lot of current, it should at least have a relay that the switch only energizes the relay so you don't fry the switch

and it could energize the starter at anytime, not that the car would start but I wouldn't want someone to go 'Hey what does this button do?' and start burning up my starter.

Coburn- I'm not a car thief but I'm thinking if one saw keys in the ignition thats a pretty easy target, your asking for someone to break in, maybe they won't figure out how to start it but I'd be pissed if someone broke a window to get in

Definately use a relay, and leaving the key in just doesn't seem like a good idea to me but thats up to you.

I wonder if you could use an immobilizer bypass the type they use for remote starts and have it activate when you flip a hidden switch

u still take the key out like normal. and if u push the button without the key in the on position it rolls over but wont start. like kickstarting a quad if the run switch isnt in the run position. my buddy had a Honda CRX with a bad ignition so he used a trunk popper button and thin wire for a while with no problems. but im sure there is a better and more secure way todo it. I bout my car with the pushbutton start. the guy before me had it on there for about a year before i bought it. he nor i have had a problem. but if u can put a relay or a diode in place that would be better.

The relay is basically like a switch that can handle a lot of power, then the switch just provides a small amount of power to power a little magnet in the relay. If you don't use a relay then you are making all the power required to drive the starter go through the switch (I think the starter is protected by a 40 amp circiut breaker) so up to 40 amps could be going through that switch and they are usually rated for like 10 or 20 at the most

an immobilizer bypass tricks the car into thinking the key is in the cylinder while it is being remote started, with your car there is a resistor in the key that can be measured by the car to make sure it is really the right key to start the car and this little bypass provides the same amount of resistance into the sensing wire.

What some peeople do is just put a resistor into the wire that senses the key that matches the resistance of the key, you could do that but then anyone that figures out what switch to flip and what button to push could start the car which is why I left the key in my setup

I think I might get a relay then, if I don't use the bypass. What would the bypass do for me anyway? Besides making it keyless. Or are you suggesting I use an immobilizer bypass controlled by a switch AND a bypass?

The bypass tricks the car into thinking you put the right security key in, you would want to hide the switch that would power this so if you don't want the car to be started keyless (maybe if you are parking for a football game in a lot in the city)

So what you're saying is this: Wire a switch in the dash that runs a relay. This relay is connected to a bypass, making the key unneeded. Then have a button that runs the starter. Correct?

And with this plan, I could have the push button start AND a regular keyed start? Possibly even a remote start?
