Default anyone use the digital interfaces?

I'm just curious if anybody here has actually used the Metra Digital Interface on their 2000+ Bonneville? I've pretty much ditched the effort of using any of the factory wiring for the stereo in this car. The harness that attaches to the ribbon cable is unable to make a secure constant connection with the ribbon cable so various speakers sometimes stop playing when I hit bumps. The ribbon harness does not allow the adapter harness to securely attach to it so it can slide around quite easily. Either i'm giong to replace my cd player and amp all speakers, and replace all speakers, or I'll keep it totally stock. I'm just not sure if I want to go through the hassle of changing everything or not. What would you do? Keep it stock, or go through the hassle and change everything, but have a superior system?

i changed it all out, however i was planning on doing components, subs and amping it all.. If it was me, id do it all again, get a nice set of components, a couple decent subs and spend some more money on amps and you will love it

I've installed several of the GMOS-05 adapters with great success on Bonnevilles and LeSabres. The replicated door chime is a bit loud IMO, but I have no other complaints with the unit. I will be using one for my vehicles when I get around to my own install.

I used the digital interface on my 02 SE. I have had good luck so far.

When I did my install I just unhooked the ribbon harness from the dash cavity, plugged in the harness place the harness and ribbon adapter on the bottom of the dash cavity and mounted my new headunit.

I did find out however that if you use the dash install kit with the cubbyhole in the bottom that there is enough space for the interface harness and the ribbon adapter to lay in the bottom of the dash cavity. I have had my head unit installed for about a month and a half and had no trouble. \

I agree the replicated chime is way loud.

I just got around to installing my digital interface the other day and I didn't have that much trouble with it. The only thing was trying to get all of the wires to fit. I put my 2 12'* in and amped all of the speakers in the car after I changed the factory ones to aftermarket speakers which really makes the sound quality great especially with the bass

Hey there, I agree that the sound quality is much improved over the factory head unit.
I am looking at installing some JL Audio components in the doors and the tweet locations.
Did you use 6 1/2'* in the doors?? I think that is the size but I'm not really sure.

Have you redone the tweets yet?? If so what size did you use??
You have the tweets in the corners of the doors correct??

Like I said that was the only trouble I had with my HU install.
What Head Unit did you use??

Holla Back,
Tim

I used a set of infinity components they are 6 1/2'* in the doors and like 1' in tweeters they are in the corner of the front doors(sound really good) I put pioneer 6x9'* in the back and ran a 500 watt crunch amp to all the car speakers then put a 1600 watt crunch amp on 2 infinity 12'*. I have a Pioneer DEH-P840mp head unit (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn..._34979,00.html)has kind of a double face also hooked up a pioneer 12 disc changer. After having my car for a year and a half glad I finally got my Metra Digital Interface and got my car stereo installed I love it

I have to ask for an honest oppinion here guys. Do you think the factory headunit does not sound good because of a lack of power output, or does it not sound good because of the sound quality it puts out. I do know that it over exagerates bass output quite a bit especially at lower volumes, but other than that what do you think of the sound quality? I don't know if it'* a fair comparison between the aurora/Bonneville though. The aurora'* stereo sounds much better than the bonne'*, even our ssei with the bose! (I only have the Delco system) I think the biggest factor is the speaker placement on the Bonneville. The woofer is very low in the door and the tweeter is at the top near the mirror. That is like a 3 foot gap between the two. For best sound they should be no more than 1 foot apart. the aurora has the woofer right below the door handle..

i still have stock speakers in my rear deck (not by choice lol) they sound fine to me unless i start crankin up the volumes past "Ear Bleed" to "Skull Chruser" levels at least when i listen to normal music. When i thrown in amon amarth or ne other really heavy metal bands forget about it they crackle at about 1/2 volume.

That question is like a double edged sword. In my opinion the sound quality is better compared to stock stereos of the past. The stock unit does have over exagerated bass at low levels, the amp also runs out of power at the higher levels, if you can find a happy medium, then it is a good stock unit. The Delcos are pretty good outfits in my opinion. I would have probably left it stock had the mod bug not bit me. I just wanted something a little classier and higher tech looking. The factory speakers aren't much though. I'm strugglin with the factory units until I get my other mods paid off, You know spending that plastic. My wife said she couldn't tell a difference in the sound but there is a very obvious and noticeable difference with the alpine compared to the stock unit.

That was a good question and it will inspire lots of answer I'm sure.

But, that is what makes the world so interesting is that everyone is different and has different tastes.

Love it or Leave it "It takes all kinds"

Peace

Tim
