since my last radar blew its speaker in it, i wanna try something new here...

first i am gong to hardwire it in, right next to the rear view mirror.. then i want to make an output, and run that to a SMALL amp, max 20 amps... and then run that output of the amp into the front speakers...

questions... can a speaker handle 2 inputs?

is there anyways i could get the volume of the radar to be adjusted by the what the volume of the headunit already is?

why dont you just put a new speaker in the radar detector?

yah i hardwired mine above the rearview mirror and it works great and my speaker did go out in my voice radar detector and its much easier to take it apart and just take the speaker to radioshack and try to find one that is close to the same as it. i didn't get an exact match on it but it worked i just kinda had to support it inside of the case since the speaker was smaller but it works just like new. i wouldnt try to put it into your speakers just because you may have feedback problems and its just a better idea i think to just try to replace the little speaker inside the radar detector.

i got 3 old radars and they all have the same problem.. ok ill just get new speaker...

Yeah, you don't want to wire two amps to one speaker. If you do that, and one of the amps [your car stereo] happens to be driving a huge signal, not only does that signal go to the speaker connected to it, but it goes *in* the *output* of the other amp. Since amps aren't designed to be driven with a source at their output, you can wind up with a blown amplifier output section, or at least trigger the amp into circuit protection shutdown mode.

if you were really set on doing that you could use a pair of SPDT relays on each speaker to interupt the original source equipment. The big snag in this plan is how you're going to trigger the switching. As mentioned already, you'll be making life a lot easier on yourself by just replacing the internal speaker or remote mounting it. Make sure you purchase a replacement speaker that is of the same impedance (ohms) unless you're planning on following through with using a dedicated amplifier to drive the speaker(*).

what are the speakers in them rated at?? 1watt @16 ohms?? something like that.

Haro..I've been hardwiring my detectors for years now.. It'* the way to go. Do yourself a big favor and make sure you do two things.

1. Go to Rat Shack and get a cig lighter extension cord (for the end)
2. Make sure you wire it to a ignition circuit.

Cut the extension cord and tap those wires into the ignition switched 12V you are going to use. If necessary use zip ties to secure the radar cig plug into the ext cord.

This way if you ever want to pull it for a long trip in someones car you didn't cut your own cord..and you will find the wire size much easier to work with. When you get in the car and start it..the detector come one automatically.

they did this in my dad'* SHO.
