Default Question about the OEM AM-FM CD player w/ equalizer

I have the OEM AM-FM CD player with the bass and treble controls. Can anyone give me an opinion on this unit compared to the one with the equalizer? Is the equalizer that much better that the one with the bass and treble controls? I have a 1999 SSE with the Bose speakers. Thanks

Barry...interesting you ask.

bonne94ssei, black94ssei and myself were hanging out in my garage this weekend and did the comparison.

There is none. The 7 band equalizer wins the trophy by six mines. Bass is probably doubled. Everything sounded better on the 7 band.

The comparision was on a 97 with the treble/base sliders vs a 98 7 band.

Thanks for the quick reply! Nothing better than these forums for great info. When you speak of the Head Unit, I assume you are talking about the entire in-dash unit. If not, do you mean just the face plate? I find two part numbers on these units that by appearance look exactly the same. #16213372 and #09370222. Does anyone know if they are both plug and play for my 99? Don't want to get the wrong one. Thanks again.

thanks for the question, I had been wondering about this myself. Too bad I dont have the almost $300 bucks to switch, unless someone wants to trade or has a good one working. Sometimes I wish I had the money for these things.

I tried to convince Bill that since he used my car to test the HU, that I get to keep the 7-band

No go

IMO, it sounds MUCH better than the Bass Treble slider unit.

By HU (Head Unit), he means the whole radio/CD player.

I was the other member who had the good fortune of getting a 7-band swapped in place of the slide version of a tape deck. As said, there is no comparison.

Keep your eyes open on ebay or sometimes even here in the For Sale section. There'* no reason why you should have to pay $300 for one.
