Default Pep Boys CD mount and new Rear Speakers

I was at pep boys looking at CD player sleeves/trim plates. They have a selection where they have "universal" kits for particular car brands. They have three GM kits, and one had bonneville listed on the back.

How can I tell it'* compatible with my KD-LX111 CD receiver?

Second, my rear speakers don't work. I can see their underside from my trunk. My question is, first, how can I tell if my speakers are blown and they are at fault? And second, if they are I want to put in nice new speakers. I saw someone around here had a picture with 4 speaker across the back in some kind of custom panel. Would I be able to do that?

if its just a standard size HU then it should be good to go. just make sure to see if on the mounting you get the right year and that car. follow the instructions step by step cuz they will call to cut/break a few spots and bolt/screw a couple dif pieces to. a good idea is to match the mounting kit with the stock HU to see if the bolt pattern matches up too.

for your second ? thats prob a fiberglass rear deck. if you have any know how and not scared of messin up you can do a fiberglass rear deck. the rear speakers bein "blown" is a fun one. pull them out and hook up to another source, like a lil house stereo. if they work cool. or if you install your new HU they should sound up if it was your stock HU.

you can save alot of time if you just disconnect the speaker wires in the trunk connect a scrap peice of wire to each terminal and touch them to opposite ends of a battery. If they arent blown, they will make a popping noise. If they no pop, they no good

Well yeah I was actually thinking of getting some after-market speakers that look nice, you know for interior aesthetics. I'm not afraid of messing up, but I never made a custom deck like that before, I think I'll just rather let a shop do it this time. I'm not gonna go with anything flashy, but definitely custom-looking and sounding good. I think my HU does have AV out for an amp or sub woofer.

I'll check my speakers first though. I would cut the wire and then pull it out, and then connect the two wires to a battery, right?

LOL thanks Cracker. After you linked my that thread where you had pics of your project with the pillar columns I tried taking one of mine off to see what'* back there, apparently it clips on or something and the clip broke up top so now it hangs off a little bit. DOH! Not too back though since my CD holder keeps it from view. But I guess I'll add that to my list of needed parts...

Anyways I decided I'm gonna try making my own rear deck! With 4 speakers! And if I want cool-looking speakers I'm probably gonna have to order them online.

And suggestions for speakers? I'm going for the cool stylish and cheap look, I don't need super-performance speakers. I'm probably looking for ball-park $100 for a pair, so about $200 total plus shipping. And can I hook up 4 to the existing wire connection in my SE?
