or get an aftermarket radio, which would help SQ a lot.

Transmitters suck for SQ, period. I tried three of the top brands on the market (Monster, DLO, and Griffin) and hated every one of them, in or out of a metro area, on all channels.

I love my Alpine + full speed iPod connection because of the control, direct link, and sq. $230 and you get a deck with many new technologies (HD radio, bluetooth accessories), great SQ, and a simple cable from the deck to iPod.

Hard to beat the stock look yes, but I can't stand bad SQ anymore... Stupid Hi-Fi ruined me!

Looks nice!

Well, as my girlfriend learned, and roommate learned, while it is nice to have a nice fancy headunit, they can disappear overnight very easily.

So for me, I would rather modify my stock radio to work with the Ipod and have it less obvious, than spend the $230 on a new HU which will just leave my car in 3-6 months and take $600-1000 worth of other stuff/damage with it.

Agreed. If i didn't hate aftermarkets i would have bought one long ago. On top of that, this here is free!

I put it in the car today and the quality is just as good as CD, many times better than any FM converter i've heard.

If you don't ever want to use the CD (or tape if thats what you have) again, then the mod is VERY simple. Just unplug the output from the CD unit and Splice your input wires in it. 3 wire nuts and the cord from an old set of headphones is all you need. Once you have the radio out of the car its a 15 minute job.

The tricky part comes in if you want to retain CD/Tape functionality, which i'll work on tonight. My setup will be pretty much like aciD'*, only with a 93 gen radio.

Just like aciD'*, the problem with this mod is that your cd player must be working and it must be spinning the CD while the ipod is playing. So when it'* cold and the radio spits the cd back out, it will revert to radio. (my cd player takes about 10 minutes to warm up in the winter ) There is a two-wire data connection between the motherboard of the radio and the cd unit which, among other things, lets the CD player tell the radio when it'* not working. If someone smarter than me could figure out how to prevent the cd unit from telling the radio it doesnt' work, it would be an awesome mod.
