I guess that could be part of the problem I'm not sure. All I know (being a newbie and all) is that when the stereo comes on it says bose. I saw that the amp had monsoon stamped on it, but I just figured maybe it was a bose head unit running through a bose approved "monsoon" amp system... yeah, I don't know a whole lot about stereos...
Should it not say bose? could it possibly have the wrong radio in it? Is there a specific model number we should be looking for insrtead?
thanks for the replies,
-Josh
[edit] general spelling corrections ... it was pretty bad

I'm going back to the dealership tomorrow. If someone could tell me whether this radio is the wrong one, and which one to replace it with, it would be greatly appreciated. If they don't have it fixed I'm going to tell them to keep it until it gets fixed... b/c As soon as I let them off the hook, this radio issue could be mine forever... if it is really something else.
Anyone know the model number of the monsoon radio for this 03 ssei? I really appreciate it.
Hear are some pics I grabbed of the radio from an archived webpage I made from the sealerships site (meaning I don't have my car with me at the moment )
thanks

I'm looking into my radio issue and trying to find out why it displays Bose instead of monsoon (and doesn't work), and I've come across a couple leads, but I don't really know where to go next.

I suspect you have the wrong head unit. 2000, 2001 and 2002 head units are interchangeable and are Bose. 2003, 2004 and 2005 cannot use the head unit from the earlier 2000+ Bonnies. My guess is that someone got you a 2000 - 2002 radio and thinks it will work in a 2003. You can do anything you want with the Theftlock and it still will be the wrong head unit. There are only minor external differences in the earlier and later head units. I believe if you have a button that says CD/TAPE it is the earlier one and the same button will say BAND (possibly with some other word I don't remember). I am fairly certain that if you have an CD/TAPE button, you have the wrong head unit.

From what I can remember from working on GM'* with the Monsoon system when you turn the stereo on it says "Monsoon" on the display but I have no idea where it recieves the message from, the Radio or the Amp.
I also remember that the Monsoon Radio looks quite different from the Bose or the standard radio.
My guess is if the amp says Monsoon that the Radio needs to be a Monsoon also.
A GM dealer should be able to tell from your VIN or RPO codes what system came equiped in this vehicle and what part numbers are the correct replacement.

Thanks again,
The person that worked on my car at the pontiac dealership is on vacation this week. So I won't find out what she determined until Monday. And I will be gone that week, so I won't be able to post it until that next saturday at the earliest.
As soon as I can though, I will post the diagnosis by the pontiac deralership, and at that time I will update my facebook account with a picture of my stock radio.
