alternator whine
i was reading a old post that was about radio relacement. it said that when the di d the install that here was a whine. he said they fixed it but did not say how. also they mentioned the sterring wheel control module. how difficult was that to install. i have read a little about it but have not seen it so i do not know how it works. i would say that it has to program the buttons on the steering wheel to work through the remote setup on the alpine but how?

I'll let the real experts post on the Alternator whine, but I'll chime in on the steering wheel controls. I've done it.
The SWI-X controller is a PITA. In my opinion, it'* not worth the money or the trouble. I removed mine when I went back to the stock deck. Your HU has to have an IR remote to begin with, and you'll be doing a fairly complicated install. If you want to do this, have it done professionally.

the wine is usually somthin as simple as a week ground... but it can also be as easy as the rca'* bein on the same side as the power cable.. but in some cases you may not be able to fine the problem so you can install a pasive noise filterpick it up at the local audio store. the controls ill lookinto for ya cause i have to figure it out for red barron anyway so ill see what i can come up with!

it is not hte ground. i have 0 gauge wire for both power and ground. i used memphis fuse blocks and connectors. the battery is in the back seat so the old rule of running them canles down oppisie sides is not the case. i tried the factory ground no luck. so i figured the where the seat back bolts to the car would be next best. still whines. think i will check the rca'* maybe one is damaged.

Just thought about something, Amplifiers, especially 1/0 ga wire would be so much easier in the 00+ with the battery in the backseat....

Question for you, where do you hear the alt. whine coming from? A certain speaker(*) or all of them? I agree with everyone about checking the grounds and RCA'*. I CURRENTLY have Alternator whine, actually I've had it since my system went it, lost points for it at my competiton and still WON!!!
For me it'* Only my pass. front Tweet. So far I've had my grounds checked and re-checked/moved. Ran 2 sets of differnet rca'* even ran them outside the car to the trunk, still not the answer for me, next I got another Alpine, nope, than swaped out my crossovers nope. So Now My amp is getting swaped in two weeks when I go in for a remote start/2 way alarma Viper 791. That better fix it. errrr. It dosen't really bother me cause It'* not that loud and goes away when the car warms up SOMETIMES. Along with hearing the supercharger whine through my Thrasher CAI. Also used to hearing my girlfriend whine too, So I'm kind of used to it! Do want my car fixed though.
As for the steering wheel controlls I also have the SWI-X controller. Had my installer do it. Most people mount them in the center console so it points straight at the headunit but he assure me that it would work off the steering colum, IT works fine there. I like it there cause it'* so unnoticable. It'* the little dot on by colum.
New digy cam pics.
Also works with my Alpine in all the tilted positions.
