What kind of sound quality should one expect out of an FI-X?

well Fi are known for both unbelievable spl and even more SQ. And they are handbuilt, with customer support bar none. Im not sure how much those subs usually fo for but $70-$80 for a handbuilt Fi sub is stupid cheap. Fi'* lower series of subs arent cheap (price, quality or sound wise) like Kicker, Rockford, ect. If i had the money i would get one myself! or 4!

You know, I love the idea, I love the concept, and if I didn't know about the IDQ I'd do it, but after what I've read about everywhere about the IDQ and the knowledge that I could have 2 of those in the future, I think I'm still sold on those. I want ultimate SQ right now and even if I get the Fi subs I'll constantly have the wonder in the back of my head haunting me of what the IDQ would have sounded like by comparison. I'd rather know that I got the best SQ for the money and that nothing else I could have gotten would have sounded better.

I sent him the payment for both of them. Can't wait to get these in. He recommended 400-800W RMS, but said that 1000W RMS should be fine so long as I turn the gain down.

Dude, u got one hell of a deal there! I hope u like them as much as i do. As for the gain, what i would do is use the gain chart to set it with a dmm making sure to set it to the appropriate level according to the chart for the amont of wattage you want to give the subs. Im happy for you X, let us know how u like them.
So when does the box build begin?

He recommended I line the inside of the box with fiberglass. Never used fiberglass before...
