Lol, those subs are nice and they have some great power output. You were going with that flush mount JL sub weren't you?

Read this review of the Morel Ultimo sub to see what I mean, and read some of the responses as well. This will put into words what SQ is.

The Morel Ultimo is a $800 SQ sub with a carbon fiber cone.

Then, check this out. This is the conversion I had with the guy who sold me these IDQ subs. Keep in mind this guy won the MECA Stock Class CA state championship with these subs.

I've never been able to verbalize how these sound until I read a review of the Morel Ultimo.

After hooking the sub up in the .85 cu ft sealed enclosure I ran auto eq and ta on my 880PRS, and got in for a listen. My first impression was ... is it on? Is everything working? I can't hear it, WTF? Eventually I figured it out ... holy sh*t! So this is what "transparent" means.
That'* kinda what these sound like. Transparent. At first I was almost disappointed that they weren't loud enough, then I realized that the sound is actually there, you just don't know where its coming from.

This quote also reflects how these ID subs sound:

When you listen to music, the sub just makes the notes happen that it'* supposed to, you can't hear any noise at all from it, can't localize where it may be. It sounds like the low frequencies are just ''there''. I highly recommend giving one a listen in a properly tuned and aligned vehicle.
Granted, I'm sure the two ID subs are nowhere near the level of the $800+ Morel Ultimo, but this is all I've been able to come up with to describe how it sounds. As someone who knows much more than I do, how would you describe them? I'm trying to explain to some other friends of mine who haven't really ever heard anything like this before.

First of all don't count out an IDQ against a $800 sub..........they compete VERY well.

As for writing it up for you.....your doing fin on your own
This coming from an SQ champion and regional promoter? I think its safe to say these subs are incredible. I'd hate to get the Dayton subs and find out they don't live up to these standards.

This might be the reason why I'm buying another pair of IDQ 10V2'* for the new Regal I just bought, mint condition for $200 shipped.

thats impressive, but the price is so low comparing to anything on the market. i wish i can hear them in person to judge

i think whats happening is i was too happy with my 10W7 that i dont wanna convince myself into anything other than JL.

and yes, im installing 2 13TW5 subs in the trunk, they are 600 RMS each

The price is so low because these subs were originally sold in 2001. The fact that they're still working perfectly and competing with 2010 model $800 subs should say something. The current IDQ models are going for $240 each. I'm picking up my second set at the same price $200 a pair because I'm getting lucky.

I'm not going to jump on the anti-JL bandwagon because I know they make some great subs. I also know that yours will be loud and capable of producing a lot of power. However, I also I know that they won't come close to the SQ capabilities of SQ oriented subs, and there are many more out there than just Image Dynamics that sound even better and are accompanied by an even higher price tag. That Morel Ultimo is a great example of that.

See this thread:

http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...ease-vote.html

Like I said, if power and output is what you're looking for, your subs will be excellent. But if you're looking for pure SQ, you might end up wishing you picked up a different set of subs.

Unless of course 04MonteLS wants to sell me his two ID10V3'*.

This sub was recommended over on diyma.com as an alternative to the IDQ10V3 I was considering:

Any thoughts?
I'm so glad you ended up liking the IDQ'*...I'd have felt bad if I suggested them and you didn't like them.

Actually no. The beauty of these IDQ'* are that they will work in very small enclosures. I'm running these two IDQ'* in .72 cubic feet. Not a very big box at all.

Funny you mention that. He proceeded to compare the JL W7 to the Morel Ultimo.

Morel Utimo 12 frequency response: 10-900 Hz.

JL audio W7 is designed far better than that morel even. some claim the W7 can do 6 Hz, and I think I might have personally achieved that at one point when I had my 1000/1 amp before it got ripped off. it was like an earthquake. I also entered a Db drag race and hit 135 something Db with that single sub. I wouldn't expect the morel to have that kind of excursion because it isn't hitting that low. I doubt it could do the 10 like it says if it has that much excursion. or is it simply the LINEAR excursion its capable of? that is seriously a point to consider.

anyway what you need to achieve SQ is mainly a sealed enclosure, high power, and the ability to accurately reproduce all the recorded sound. if you are missing a chunk of the spectrum, do not expect to have full SQ. look up the 6 patented technologies used by JL audio, and you will see why they can be still considered the best in the world after over 10 years. things like patented technology and linear excursion are things you want to look at for sure when judging the performance of a woofer.

for you to claim that 15 Hz and excursion doesn't matter when you list the Morel Ultimo as the pinnacle of vibrating cones hits 10 Hz? then why cant the lighter, more rigid patented W-cone do the same? in order for them to achieve the specs they are rated for all angles of the woofer must be looked at and engineered for the best performance making it naturally the best SQ available.

I had a thought with regard to the new Regal. It appears that from the factory, the Monsoon system had two 4" drivers and 2 6x9'* in the rear deck. The 6x9'* served as subs, while the 4" drivers served as stereo sound. So I had an idea.

Would it work to replace the 4" drivers with 4" coaxials or components and use the 6x9 mounts for 6x9 midbass drivers?
