Alright, I have a bit of a problem. I need some advice.

I'm trying to decide what would be better suited for these ID subs I just bought. I have this Alpine MRP-M1000, and then I have a Kenwood KAC-9103D. I used to have the 9103D on the amp board until I got the Hifoncis sub, which needed a 1 ohm stable amp, and the 9103D wasn't 1 ohm stable for more than 5 minutes. However, the Kenwood amp was 100% stable for the last 2 years I've used it on a single Alpine R12. The Kenwood amp is rated at 900W RMS @ 2 ohms, which is just 100W shy of the Alpine amp.

That, and it matches the other two Kenwood amps I'm using for front components and rear 6x9'* quite nicely.

Is it worth getting the Kenwood amp back in there, or is the Alpine a much better amp and would sound a lot better with the new subs?

Even though the Kenwood amp is rated at 900W RMS, it amusingly only has two 30 amp fuses, while the Alpine amp has 4 25amp fuses. That pretty much means that the Kenwood amp won't really run any higher than 750W RMS, which makes it adequate for one R12.

Thoughts? Opinions?

My guess would be that the Alpine would sound better, of the two. I think you're gonna have to resort to using the ear-o-meter for this one!

See, I don't know how much "SQ" there actually is to be had with sub amps so long as you're within the range of operating power without clipping.

I'm very tempted to try it out, which will mean rewiring the Bonneville'* sub as well because that'* where I have the Kenwood amp now. Its more a matter of looks for me. Those 3 amps look great together. Plus, I really need to build an amp board for the Bonneville.

I don't think it'* quite that simple man.....I mean if it were it would be hard for me to pay $475 for a Sundown SAZ1500 when I could get a Power Acoustic 3000D that will do the same power as the Sundown for less than half the money. The quality of the components in the amp have alot to do with the quality of the sound the amp puts out.

This would be my advice....leave the amps that are in there now, in there, and see how it sounds on your subs. Then hookup the other amp and see how that one sounds on them, that way you can hear both of them and can make your decision based on fact not opinion.

You know, I think I'll leave the Alpine amp in there. I would do what you just recommended, but it would be a lot of work just to do that only to likely find out what is already suspected.

I'll leave the amp where it is. Installation will start tomorrow!

Yeah, Kenwood amps don't have the best reputation. I'm excited to see how this comes out, wish I could come over and lend a helping hand, and it'* not even mine
