need a new antenna! (not power)
my power antenna is stuck, down. i dont get crap for reception. so tomorrow im going to disassemble it and pull it up, but thats only a temp fix untill i get a new one.
im tired of power antenna'*, they always break and freeze in the winter, so i want to get a fixed antenna. anyone replace there'*? i was at the auto store looking today, and there wasn't ONE with a female connection on it (since that would make it more plug and play) what have you guys used? also, i see they sell antenna'* that mount to your back window, any good luck with those? i want to be able to pull in stations really well, im a little ways out so i need a better antenna than i would if i lived in the cities.
also, ill eventually be installing my clarion HU from my old car, so that should help too

I scored a fixed-mast antenna in our local salvage yard for $5.00
I was fortunate enough to find one on a Bonneville, so I grabbed the base piece along with the mast. It plugged in right in place of the power unit I had that was not working, just like yours.
I am not sure what other cars have a similar base, that you might be able to grab besides another Bonneville. I looked at a couple other cars that had power antennas in the same row, for the large GM sedans, and didn't find anything that matched right up. I don't recall what exact other models I checked, though.
I know that having the fixed antenna has given me way better reception than even the 3/4 of the way up power one ever did since I had the car. I would like to replace it with a functioning power antenna, but right now I don't have the time to search all the other salvage yards, or the $$ to just buy a replacement thru GM.

i tore my motor apart, and pulled the antenna part out of it. then i pulled the antenna up by hand, and tapped the bottom of the antenna to the mast so it wouldn't move.
so i have a fixed once power antenna, works great ive never liked the hassle of a power antenna. if they are working, they freeze during the winter...they're annoying

its weird that you say you the power antenna freezes. i have a 92 se and as far as i know the antenna has never froze. its even a little bent but the powerful gm antenna motor powers through all adversity. i just wish it wouldnt go down every time i switch to cd(alpine HU) but thats another problem.

mine didnt work, i tore out the motor and used some pliers to pinch each segment, so now i can manually push/pull it up or down with no problem
