I know that this might have been posted before, but my selection is a little more limited. I have around $100 to spend at Best Buy and one of my friends works there and gets around 50% or more off car speakers, so I am looking to buy new speakers for my car. Both the front and back driver'* side are dead, so it is time to get new ones (Tweeters still work fine I think).

5-1/4 Speaker Selection

6x9 Speaker Selection

I'd like to keep the normal price of the 5-1/4 to under ~$75 and the 6x9 to under ~$120.

So, what would you guys choose if you had my situation. Also post what you would get it you did not have around my price restrictions, if you think it would be worthwhile to spend a little more. Right now I was thinking of getting the Pioneer ones for both the front and rear.

IMO, it is far easier to replace the rears than the fronts. Therefore, I would not go cheap on the fronts if you are just going to end up replacing them anyways. If money allows, go for Infinity Reference Series. They may be the bottom end for Infinity, but the components that I have up front in my Maxx really sing when amped. I can safely say you wouldn't be dissappointed in that choice. Seriously though, I would build up the front soundstage first if you are on a limited budget, plus run the new speaker cable for amplification while the panel and speaker are out so you won't have to do tear apart the door panel again.

Well, I wanted to get both front and rear because my car is the one my friends and I go on all the trips with since it gets good highway miles and it fits everyone. I have heard good things about Infinity, so I guess they are worth looking into. Any other suggestions?

I think that I also want to get a new headunit because the stock one is getting old. The only other thing I was looking to do in about a year was put two 12'* in the truck, but I wanted to get these fixed this summer before I head back to college.

I bought all my Infinity speakers (except the subs) through stores on Ebay...all of it was brand new, but discontinued. I think I only paid 100 and change for all my speakers, and one pair of those is a component set.

My suggestions to you when it comes time to install:

1) Run new wiring into the doors while you have the door panel off. Even if, for now, you use the factory wire to get the signal from the stereo to the speaker, you can still connect your new wire to the speaker and leave the other end taped off. Then, when you amplify those fronts (when it comes time to), just snip the wires from the stereo leading to the speaker. Also, dynamat if you can afford it.

2) I noticed a performance improvement when I ran new power and ground wires to the stereo when i upgraded it, and not relying on the factory wiring.

3) Run all your RCA'* while installing your stereo, even if you don't have amplifiers yet. Also run your remote signal wire at this time. I took my signal wire to a relay, which energizes when the stereo is turned on. Which in turn sends higher current to mulitple amps and neon lighting.

That'* all the advice I can give ya right now. As far as speakers, I would stick with Infinity...JBL'* are too "bright", Alpine is overated (for speakers anyways), Pioneer is a good starter speaker BUT doesn't give much in the low frequencies (hence the word "starter"). Good luck to ya!
