so a mono amp is the best choice if you will strictly be using it to power subs?

Not really, subs are the only thing you can power off of a mono amp.

Personally I'm running a DEI amp, and it'* a 2 channel amp. It can be run in these configs....

All figures rated RMS off of 14.4v (capable of much more, let alone peak power..)

100w x2 @ 4ohms
200w x2 @ 2 ohms
400w x1 bridged into 4 ohm

It runs my 2 JL'* perfectly! It'* a great amp matched for them, but if i ever got components and watned to amp them, i could get a different amp for the subs, and use the DEI later. It'* nice for wiring configs. You could also run each sub in a 2 sub system on each channel, IE stereo.

Default MONO AMPS

YOU ALSO HAVE TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THAT NOT ALL MONO BLOCK AMPS ARE NOT CLASS D AMPS. A CLAS A/B MONO AMP WILL PLAY THE WHOLE SPECTRUM.

Sounds like a class D amp, not many a/b if any affordable ones, can do that.
