sealed or ported?
I currently have a sealed box, with my 2 12" pioneers in it. I was thinking about porting the box, but im not sure about it. I listen to rap and rock. what would be the best? sealed it good, but i was just wondering if I could get anything more out of it.

ported boxes are a little bigger and get louder at whatever freaquency they are tuned to than a sealed box, but the further away u get it from the tuning freaquency, the worst it will sound

Ive owned both sealed and ported boxes with 12'' subs and what ive noticed is the band pass or ported boxes are a lot louder like Jachin said, but the sealed created a crisper bass but needed more power. Some subs sound better in a ported enclosure and some sound better in sealed

go sealed...best sq and can hit deeper than ported. ported or bandpass make "boomy"/"sloppy" bass. usually ported/bandpass boxes are more efficient as in powering the sub, so usually you will want a little more watts for a sub in a sealed box, but it'* worth it

If you have SQ, the SPL will follow.
Sealed. it helps protect the woofers too, as in a ported box, your woofers can extend quicker, and farther. The sealed chamber in a sealed or bandpass box "cusions" them in a way. Don't port your box either, it'* not designed to be ported, and you won't like it I bet. Porting is hard, you need to know the length of the tube, diameter, etc, and that takes time, calculations and trial and error.
Actually top SPL happens in sealed boxes a lot, because ports can only move soo much air thru them. Once they start chuffing, they kill SPL. This is an extreme example yes.
Better SQ, flatter response, tighter bass, lower bottom end, massive power handling, and more and more make it better.
What'* best for you? Well ported isn't that bad, and if setup right, and proper use of EQ'* are used then you'll be fine. If you listen to boomy rap then you'll only notice SPL. If you listen to anything fast, or to music that encompases the whole woofer'* frequency range, you'll want Sealed.

a sealed box that is too small can create preasure on the back of the subs, therefore making not last quite as long maybe, but a sealed box alone cannot blow a sub

Ive had a system ever since i started driving i had 12'* ive had 10'* both in a ported and a sealed box. recently i got som rockford fosgate he2'* in a band pass and the bass quality is the best with a bandpass but thats just my opinion. you can really FEEL the thump with a bandpass. Way crisper bass.
