Default enough power?

my problem is this...... i want to replace the tape player in my 90 sse(w/ stock premium speakers). i have a sony cd HU (52wx4, probably less actual power)kickin around but im not sure if i should use it or not. will the sony have enough power for the stock speakers? and what about the gain boost thing? i dont really know how the stock unit is hooked up...... the sound right now is kindy muddy so would adding seperate tweeters w/ crossovers in the dash work well? i just dont want to go screwing anything up making it worse....

Yes replace it!

Almost any HU will sound better.

Speakers dont care about power, they will play what ever you send them. The Sony will output about 22 Watts a channel - that'* all you can get out of a HU beacuase of the 12 Volt System.

You will have to bypass the gain amplifier - but honestly its not a big loss.

Your second best upgrade should be great speakers (not just decent ones). Boston Pros, MB Quarts, or Diamond are all great brands. This way whatever upgrade you make later the speakers will be able to handle it.

After that start thinking about amplifiers and subs.

Be careful cause once you hear really good sound in your car you'll be addicted.

yeah i think i will change it..... the sound is much better than most other stock systems but it could be improved. i just want to be sure that the speakers would sound good with the same power going to the small front speakers as the 6x9s (as far as bass is concerned) i dont want it to distort the fronts i am considering using a seperate amp for the door speakers and the rear ones and using the HU to power speakers in the dash, (the holes are there, why not use them) i havent got a lot of money so i want to go the cheapest way possible for now.

I would also go and by bass blockers so your fronts can be for highs. Also you should upgrade the speakers in the doors to 6 1/2'* instead of 5 1/4'*. Also for now you can just use the stock headunit and get aftermarket speakers. The bass will be better than stock but not as good as it being amplified. But that is only if you are really tight on money. I would go with either infinity or polks.

Yea but with ebay your taking a chance that the speaker is still working or they are refurbished. Plus cost of shipping will increase unless one seller has everything you want, then you might be able to save on shipping.
