Well don't quote me on this.. but I believe a ported box will hit harder SPL and less SQL cause it basically allows the sound to come ( resonate ) out from the inside face of the speaker ( instead of a sealed box which the sound only comes out of the front of the speaker ).. but a ported speaker box will not produce SQL as well as sealed ( Sound Quality level.. I think ) since there'* not much control of the speaker coils recoil whereas a sealed will yield a higher SQL but less SPL ( Sound Pressure LEvel ) ( play a tighter bass but not as loud.. like Metallica'* One with Fast Foot drum beats.. a sealed you will hear each beat.. whereas a ported you may here it muffled like WooWooWooWoo.. stead of thump thump thump thump ).. but another thing you want to consider about a ported box is the port itself can and has to be tuned to the desired frequency to allow it to help resonate the most within a freq range.. that includes port sizes.. amount of ports.. and port tube length.. a ported box will also be a lot bigger then a sealed box too.

Hey Type *.. nice avatar dumb question.. have you tried it at absolute full volume listening to fast beat drum beats? ( and I'm not refering to techno or electronically created bass since they tend to be muffled in the first place.. )

But you and I aren't expert stereo ppl here so we'll let the pros step in and tell us whats what... k.. pros.. get in here..

another downside bout bandpass (ported) u cant run them as hard as a sealed box and they will blow out in a bandpass alot faster than a sealed system will

Hey pbj, Plurr know his stuff about audio (or whoever you intended to direct your insult towards). Don't start insulting members. A lot of our members know their audio information.

I think he'* refering to syntec and sayin that get more info ( research )before spendin all your money into something you may not be happy about. ( i.e. not enough room for 2 ported box, car kits and groccery, or being underpowered with high end speakers, or doesn't have the SQL or SPL he was lookin for )

But if he is refering to someone else then .. US --> <-- him..

MDF (medium density fiberboard) is one of the better box building materials. You have to calculate the port size with a bunch of formulas for a ported box, which can get messed up if you are off by an inch, so if you want a ported box, you might want to get a go0d audio shop to build it. Do not buy a pre-fabricated box! they suck, b/c they are not built to your speakers' specifications, build your own.
The square subs will hit harder, b/c a square has more cone area than a circle does. I have hear one 12" in a ported box that sounded damn loud, and it was only pushed by a RF punch power BD1ooo which wasn't even maxing out the sub! Definitly a go0d buy! O and you WILL have to buy a nice amp to push them hard, so be ready to spend a go0d amount of money to get a decent amp with enough RMS power to push both subs to the max. Remeber, its better to have to0 much power than not enough, b/c without enough power, the amp sends out to0 much distortion to the speakers, which causes them to fail prematurly.

let me add im sorry for the confusion but that was directed to the poster or sytnac and one more thing you have to most likely make a box cuz i doubt you have a trunk to pack 15 dead bodies in i suggest that it will take most if not all of your trunk space so it might be hard but try to assemble it in the car (oh yeah im not doubting anybodys knowledge maybe what i know can help others sytnac good luck)
