Quick!!! Alarm help!!!!
Mods, I need answers quick, thats why its in this forum!!
I have my car in pieces! Here'* the specs:
1992 Bonneville SE with VATS in the key.
Autopage 850lcd.
Questions:
1.with the starter output, ignition output and accessory output, i just tap into the wire- not cut, correct?? Also, does my car have and ignition 2 output?
2. Parking lights. I am supposed to find a brown wire in my light switch. Its not there??? where would it be? Does my car hace a +12v switched parking light?
3. Positive safety shut down input. this attaches to the brake switch. it shuts down the remote start if an attempt is made to operate the vehicle without the key while running under the control of the remote start. Do i really need this?? If so, where the heck is the wire???
4. Door switch sensing input. first of all, do i have positive or negative switching. I am to find the "common wire" that connects the door pin switches. Where????
5. Instant start and turn off input. Do i need this?? it says its needed for testing????
6. Tachometer signal wire. Do i need this? any tips on finding this wire??
7. VATS. I need to locate the two VATS wires coming down the column. can't find anything close to what is described.
8. Door lock/unlock. I can get to the door lock wires in the door itself, but when it goes through the door jam, they are really tough to find. Any ideas??
9. Trunk switch. Where do i find the trunk wire under the dash?? lost again...
Ok guys, Thats my wish list. Help out with anything you can. Sorry mods if this is in the wrong place- i need responses fast!!!
Thanks in advance!
jeff

Sloooow down, buddy. Let'* see if we can answer all of these for you. I've installed remote starters in many different makes so this may be a little vague for your specific vehicle
1) If you have a remote start only then yes, you only tap into the ignition wires. If it ia an alarm/remote combo then you will need to cut the starter wire (yellow) if you want the ign kill function to work. I'm not positive on the second ignition but GMs typically use a white wire the same gauge as the other "target" wires
2) Parking light wire is brown and it is +12v
3) Brake wire is white at the brake pedal switch & yes this is needed
4) Dome light wire is white wire. You can usually find this at the dimmer switch or in the kick panel. Look for the wires coming from the driver'* door
5) ??? This sounds like it would be connected to a valet switch of some sort.
6) Tach or tachless...the big debate. I prefer tach. White or violet/white at the coil pack
7)VATS wires are contained in an orange (or black) "tube" coming from the ignition. It should be very close to your other ignition wires
Try going to the door lock relay behind the glove box for the locks
9) I have a 90 SSE and my trunk release is in the glove box. Where'* yours? Connect right at the switch.
Good luck. Again this info is for typical GMs. If something is wrong or omitted, feel free to correct.

Thanks a ton! got it all figured out today. My problem was that i needed the same instructions told to me (by you guys) in language i could understand. I just started programming when it was time for dinner. it arms and disarms, but i didn't get it to start the car??? I also didn't troubleshoot anything... got too dark, so thats for tomorrow.
Any more hints, let me know!
