Default new alternator

I just bought the jl audio 1000/1 and a 12w7 and now i have a majorshortage of power. my lights are dimming bad and it makes the car run bad if left loud very long. i know i am pulling way more power than the alternator can handle but do not know where to go to get a new one. i have been told a cap would work but i do not think so. I do not think that it would ever charge the cap if it cannot ever charge the battery to begin with. i listen to my stereo loud if you have not figured that out by now but this is a major probem

Well we have darn close to the same equipment in almost the same car. I still have the stock alternator. but use these bad boys to fight the draw.

What does the DIC read for the voltage? Mines usuall 14.7 and have ZERO light diming. Wonder if your SLE and me SSEI have the same alternator?

How'* it sound by the way?

If you want a nice and beefy alternator (best solution) go with Domestic Performance'* stuff. Top notch.

I think a separate battery would be the better solution to your problem. But otherwise check out Domestic Performance, Ty can hook you up with a good one.

Another battery and cap and try running a ground directly from the battery in the engine to the chasis of the car, to help reduce the dimming of the lights.

Use the optima yellow ONLY as an isolated second battery for the system. Never as a primary battery. If you're going duals OR singles, I'd still bump up to at least DP'* 160 amp alternator, if not the 200.

Default OK so i need the alternator

help...you all mention the same person but no number to reach thm at. Also my dash says i am getting around 14.7- 15 volts but i can put it in the red VERY fast. Oh and the set up sounds great. i have never heard anything like it and it is my 5th car with a full tilt system. I had 3 JL Audio 10w6'* before the 12w7 and when i went from my planet audio 1200d i blew all three and this amp is rated at 1000 watts. It is amazing how 1 subwoofer can blow away three and sound just as good doing it. Oh one more question what is the diffrence between the red top and yellow top optima battery'*? o had a yellow top in my jeep but i have a red top in my trans am.
