why did you use the cig lighter for power? if you got a harness adapter, then you just plug it in, and it works off the old radio wiring.

Oh man...you got some rewiring to do.

You have two power wires that go to that headunit...one of them is a constant 12v, which keeps the memory alive. The other is a switched 12v...this one is usually a heavier gauge wire than the memory since it provides the main power. From the sounds of it, you either have both power wires going to the ciggy lighter, or you crosswired it...in either case, you need to rewire.

Yes, its fine to have the memory wire wired into a constant power source, but the main power wire needs to be wired into an accesory wire (only powered up with key in ON possition)

The two power wires going to the factory radio are always hot. These never turn off. In the 2000+ Bonneville, GM uses a Class 2 type radio and power functions are controlled by data commands.

You can do one of two things:

A) Purchase a module that connects to your factory harness and interfaces your aftermarket radio to the vehicle.

B) Find a source of switched 12V for the radio and use one of the wires at the OEM radio connector for your KAM (Keep Alive Memory).

If you choose option 'B', you will lose all factory warning chimes.

This is what I did:

http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ic.php?t=56000

I didn't want to have to have my radio on for 10 minutes every time I left my car. The only problem with my version is you have to turn it off/on manually, and you don't want to forget to leave it on when you leave your car. But, it'* an easy/cheap fix.

Something i've done in the past is run power off of the windshield whipers. Never had anything bad happen and i ran it directly from the fuse box.
