on the 88 you are supposed to hit and hold the "mute" button on the steering wheel controls. in 89-91 models the steering wheel controls are automatically reconized and there is no need to press a button due to the redesign of the steering wheel/controls. do u know the radio is a good radio? i know even though my steering wheel controls work, the Delco LOC card in both of mine are shorted out.

Hope this Helps,
Devon

On my 89 SSE when the power was disconnected and then reconnected I also had to hit my mute button on the steering wheel controls. That was the only way to get it back on.
