Removing Stock Head Unit

Removing Stock Head Unit
Hello All,
I am new to the boards and am hoping you can help. I am a NOVICE when it comes to car stereos so here it goes. Have a 1994 pontiac bonneville (which I love). It has the stock GM cassette/EQ unit. I purchased a CD / EQ head unit from ebay. I have tested it on my work bench and it works and plays great.
Now I thought this would be cake but here is the question :
1) I removed trim and (3) screws that hold stock unit in place but it won't budge ! Is there some type of bracket or clamp that holds this unit in the car ? ALso, once I figure this out (hopefully with your help) is there wire slack to pull the stereo forward and disconnect the wires or do I have to do this from below ? I looked under the dash and boy is it crowded...so any steps you can give me (remember I am clueless with installing car stereos) would be great....
Thanks in advance...
Dean

Thanks everyone. THe problem was the wiring harness was hung up on something behind the dashboard. As I pulled on the stock head unit, a friend looked under the dash and moved the wiring harness as I pulled on it gently. Got the new unit in and works great !
Thanks....
