Default Gain amp

I bought a Pioneer 4800 headunit, installed and everything, but the gain amp doesn't work. The bass sounds pretty good, but not nearly as good as with the stocker. If I connect the pink power antenna wire up to 12v from the headunit, the gain slider lights up, and the rear speakers go crazy with interference it sounds like. Doesn't produce any music whatsoever. Cracked open the FSM, doesn't seem to give me much info, but it seems it doesn't get 12v... maybe 8v, but I couldn't find a direct answer. Does anyone know what the voltage is for the remote turn on for the factory amp? Or anyone have aftermarket HU with factory gain amp?

Not sure about your year. In 95 the gain amp needed a 12+ power from the HU to come to life. In 97 with Bose..if you don't power the Bose amp...it doesn't allow anything through.

That very well could be the case... I barely have any bass... and that bass could be from the 5 1/4" in the doors. My HU gives out 12v and all that comes out is buzzing kinda [from the 6x9s]. But hooking that up lights up the gain switch, and seems to light it up brighter than before. The only way I can tell exactly what voltage comes out is by testing it on the old HU. Guess that'* what has to be done.

How do I step voltage down anyways? Would a resistor cut it?

Justin-

Can you send me the pages you have on your radio? Of course, my '87 FSM only covers the UQ4 bose radio, as there was no gain system in my year. I know i saw a post here once about it... i'll try finding it again.
