Hey guys, I can't believe I'm even asking this cause I feel like a idiot but....If you get subs that are 800w per sub do I need to get atleast a amp thats 800w? or no?

Cause I was thinking about getting Kicker Subs 12" Its buy one get one free and there 800w per sub. And I was thinking of getting 2.

Now I'm prob gonna get 2 amps one for subs other for speakers but not sure yet.

if they are 800rms. You should power them with something around 800 watts. There is really no harm in going a bit over or a bit under that.

2 amps is good. one for the subs and one for the speakers.

corvettecrazy this is the specs power handling: 50-400 watts RMS (200 watts per coil)
» 800 watts peak power handling
» frequency response: 25-500 Hz
» sensitivity: 86.7 dB

Then you will want to give each sub around 400 watts.

Another thing to consider is the Ohm rating of the voice coils and how many voice coils are there on each sub? This will determine what ohm load your going to give your amp and if the amp can handle it.

With Dual 4 ohm voice coils on each sub, your looking at a 1 ohm load or a 4 ohm load on your amp. You will want to make your amp purchase based on that info.

Make sure the amp you purchase can handle the ohm load while delivering a safe amount of power to your subs within the RMS to Peak range. You dont want to run peak power (in this case 800 Watts) continuously to your subs. The peak rating is what your sub will handle during a musical peak, not what it should run at al of the time.
