i really dont like the sound system in my car.. its nothin too special.. im think double din.. not sure if clarion on Pioneer..

so i have few questions about installing a new deck..

what would i need? all i know is that my car have onstar and the monsoon sound system..


i would love to keep everything from onstar to chiming to everything..

would i need a fitting kit for the double din? or is it straight bolt on?

what about the wiring harness? what do i need to keep the chiming and onstar working? any input is really appreciated..


please for you with answers post links to where i can buy the parts if you got any

There have been some members who have tried this in the past and had a lot of difficulty retaining OnStar, door chimes and steering wheel controls. This isn't to say that it can't be done, but you will need one or more modules to interface your car and the aftermarket deck to pull it off. The biggest problem has been getting a decent quality module to manage the door chimes and OnStar. Hopefully someone has developed on since the rash of problems others had although because of the extremely limited market, I'm not very hopeful. There are very few vehicles that use the Dock-N-Lock stereo connector found in the Bonneville.

Many have reverted to pulling out all the OEM stereo equipment and installing everything aftermarket because of the grief in cross system integration.

I generally only deal with the OEM side as I'm not a fan of aftermarket equipment (personal preference). I'm sure someone with more aftermarket knowledge will chime in on some possible up to date solutions

Unlikely you can retain use of the CDX. This was engineered and built for GM by Pioneer and is intended to work on the GM Class 2 Data Bus along with the OEM head unit.

ohh i see what you mean... so it would be so much easier if i forget about the onstar and chiming?

looking at your sig seems like you have a DVD.. that wasnt stock was it? what did it take you to run it?

There is a wiring harness that you can purchase to keep onstar in your car but the last time that I checked, They ran about $149 full retail. Then the next step down is one that kills the onstar. It is really just a basic harness but it comes with an aftermarket door chime as well. It costs about $89. full retail. Now as far as an aftermarket head unit, I like pioneer. Its what i sell and honestly I wouldnt mind selling my top of the line eclipse single din and replacing it with a pioneer fold out. I just dont feel like going through cutting up my bezel to allow for a double din headunit because mine is only really a din and a half. whats dock-n-lock?

I am assuming that by "dock n lock" he is speaking in reference to how the factory radio meets with the factory wiring harness. It basically slides into it like an old nintendo cartridge or something. You cant pull the wiring harness out to plug it into the radio. You can only slide it into it and the antenna as well p.* samsgxp you can do a double din. I mispoke in my earlier post. Please hold the mistake to my head and not my heart

I installed a touchscreen navigation system (including the Bose Luxury amp) from an Escalade. Because it was made for another GM line of similar vintage, it communicates on the existing Class 2 Data Bus. By doing this I get what I feel is very decent sound quality and navigation. It controls my Bonneville CDX, works with OnStar, retains my door chimes, works with my factory XM receiver and functions correctly with my steering wheel controls. The down side is that this vintage of radio will not play DVD'* (although it does use a DVD map disc). Here are my threads on installing it so you can see.

You can see the Dock-N-Lock connector in some of the photos. Dock-N-Lock is the name of the style of connector GM used. Yes, as Black_Friday stated, the radio just slides into the bay and "docks" with the connectors in the back. The tabs on the side of the radio lock it in place, no screws required. These connectors can be difficult to work with because they are mounted in the rear of the bay and there is very little room to work. These were used on a few years of the Aurora, Bonneville, LeSabre and IIRC Park Avenue. Overall, they are not common and therefore there hasn't been a lot of good support for aftermarket interfaces.
