CB Radio Installation
This is my first post to the Bonneville Forum, but i've been using it for quite awhile for information about repairs and modifications. I'd like to say I really appreciate the knowledge and help of members who post to this forum.
I recently finished installation of a CB Radio in my Bonneville. I have a 93 SSE and have had my CB stuffed between the seats for about a year. I finally got tired of it falling out from between the console and passenger seat that I decided to install it into the dash. I started by going to a local junkyard and getting another dash panel, so as not to destroy my original. I then took the case off of the CB Radio to get to the actual size of the unit, not the case of the unit. The face plate is larger than the frame of the CB Radio, so removing the case off of the unit will make for a nice clean install. I placed masking tape over the dash panel from the radio hole down to the bottom. I then traced an outline from the inside of the case that I had removed, onto the masking tape. This gave me an outline that was the size of the CB frame and smaller than the face of the CB Radio. I then used a very small drill bit to drill out the corners. Then I drilled a 1/2" hole in the center of the traced box. I then simply used a jig saw to cut out the hole for the CB Radio. I inserted the CB Radio into the hole and it fit perfectly. To hold the CB into the dash, I placed the case back onto the radio once it was in the dash panel. I had to drill new holes in the case, the width of the dash panel back on the CB case, this provides excellent support for the CB and it doesn't budge. I put the dash panel back in, and wired the unit into the radio power supply and hid all my wires. The project took me about an hour and a half and was well worth it! I hope this post helps somebody, I wasn't able to find anyone else here who had done this project. But then again, not many still CB

Holy shamoly that'* awesome! You may well have inspired a dash install of my CB in my Chevy

Looks great. Sure beats CorvetteCrazy and my Installation of my CB somewhere on 90 while stuck in traffic. I need to get myself a smaller CB like yours. What model is it?
