easy baffle idea
I want to seal off the rear 6x9 so that the subs wont kill them when they hit. But it looks like making a good enclosuer for them is not gonna be easy, due to the 2 layers of metal and the small hole that they fit in.
You know that plastic cover that it screwed on inside the trunk? Would i tbe a good idea to just pack that with thick insulating material? This would help to dampen the 6x9 and hopefully keep them semi-isolated from the bass pressure of the subs. Good idea? Bad?
I would rather not have to order anything off the web I would like to be able to build everything myself.

Just get rid of them alltogether and seal the hole up real nice. All the bass should be in the back with all the noise in the front.

Removing the rear speakers is not really an option for me. But if I removed them I would leave the hole open so the bass could come in.

no dont get rid of the 6X9s, thats a bad idea. i day just cover the bottom of the plastic thing holding them. make sure its sealed. its worth a shot. i only worry about the airspace affecting the 6x9s.

Ok I tried hooking up my subs without sealing the 6x9s. BAD IDEA!!!! my 12" infinitys were,t even powered at HALF and it blew my left 6x9 Two of these subs is WAY overkill, but now I need to build a sealed enclosure. Or use the plastic cover somehow.

Where are your subs mounted? I don't know how you could damage the 6x9'* by having subs.. unless you have them under the rear deck, instead of in the trunk. Gotta pic of the install?

My install is a basic as you can get. 6x9s in the rear deck, sub box in the trunk underneath the rear deck facing rearward. Same setup as every other simple installation. When the subs hit you can see the woofers moving a LOT. The left 6x9s voice coil seperated from the woofer, and the right one was over excurting too.

Here I am visiting this thought as my work progresses.
My 6x9'* hit full excursion (not sub''d yet) and I'm just
after some tightning up of the driver'*. But I'm adding
in a box as well and dont want this to happen to me!
I have some acoustic "egg carton" style foam I used
behind my home speakers (stuffed in a corner) to kill
the really deep boom. Worked great there....
So my current plan is to bend up some ABS to add a
little depth and pack the foam in there then somehow
mount it up.
What about the foam baffles used for behind the
doors for moisture protection? thats another thought.

Getting really good audio in these cars is harder than
I had anticipated!
Update: Not enough room to make up anything since the 2k B'Ville
has a torsion bar that comes very close to the speaker.
Ended up using peel-n-seal to the back of the basket
and it tightn'd up the drivers fairly well....
