Default Factory Amp speaker confusion

Ok, I was gettin ready to get some new 6x9'* for my bonne, so I searched on here for some suggestions. Then I stumbled upon a bunch of threads talking about the factory radio with the gain slider (factory amped) having 6x9'* in the rear deck with 4 wires instead of 2. I had just about given up on replacing them until i could get a new HU and rewire all new speakers, until I went and checked my car. Stuck my head in the trunk and saw only 2 wires going to each 6x9... Can someone shed some light for me?

92-95 high end packages had a slider below the radio in the trim panel that said "Gain" and it was a slider that worked an amp. This is not something built into the radio itself.

Why'* ur radio in the glvoe box?

There were a few levels of stock HU'* available, depending on what the original buyer of the vehicle wanted to pay for. The base. base model just had the Bass and Treble. The next step up was the equalizer, and you could go from there...

Guys what we have found is that if you had the BOSE (truman you have it) you only got the 2 band radio....the 2 band puts out less power than the 7 band. They used the 2 band because they had the Delco/Bose amp powering the rear speakers, so they didnt need the extra power and they also figured that the amp adjusted the EQ so you didnt need the other adjustment of the 7 band

the 7 Band was on the 6 speaker SE/SSE models that had the upgraded radio (often called Performance sound)
