I got a bad amp!
I got it all hooked up. Everything measured PERFECTLY! and fit perfectly too! I had special stainless steel brackets made at work to hold the amp right where I wanted so the trunk supports didnt hit it. Spent a **** load of time wireing it all up, getting it perfect and looking good.
I give it a test listen and it sounds kinda muddy and VERY LOUD with low volume on the HU. So I turn the gain to 1/2 and set out for a road test. It is hella muddy, and one second it is loud and the other it is what sounds like should be normal. Then I turn the gain to MIN, and it is still doing the same thing! WTF... I get back and check all my connections, and they are good including the Hi level ins with proper polarity all the way thru. Even when I turn the volume down on the HU to one or two clicks above '0' it is POUNDING!
I called Crutchfield and do the 30 min of trouble shooting, even tho I did everything they told me to do already, then they determine I got a bad amp. A new one will be here Saturday.
They INSIST that I take the input AFTER the BOSE amp and not before it. Aparently the deck only puts out a low level output to the BOSE amp and will cause all sorts of problems with the Kenwood amp. The Dood said there was a special bulletin on it for my car not to, so I guess I will beleive him. Well, I Will do the waiting game til the other amp comes, hopefully it will all go well.
Somethings gotta be bad if I turn the Gain to MIN and it is still whailing away, right?

if you have a stock deck and you are tapping off of wires you need to have a output line converter that converts the high level line to a low level rca. this will make all the difference in the world. trust me i had to get one and now my system sounds awesome and before i got one it sounded like total crap.

Hmm I had a problem like this before.... it was because I didnt have a great ground... the sound was muddy becuase the amp couldnt power itself of its current ground but sometimes it would kick in. I moved the ground and everything sounded normal... Maybe you should check your ground....

I dont think the amp is bad, and heres why! Being the stubborn engineer/Polack that I am I went and experimented with it on my lunch. When I turn up the HU the bass will start to rise, but if it gets to a point that it is too much for things to handle it cuts back. Then if I turn the sound down fast to just below normal listening levels, the bass drops normally like on a regular HU. But then after about 2-3 seconds it comes back up, kinda like an auto loudness, but it is volume dependant. If I turn the Vol down a click, the bass will drop, but then come back up again. When I turn it up it increases, but if I turn it up real fast it gets to the point where it will distort, then cut back. Not a clipping like some amps, the Bose Electronics automatically do this, like it is programmed.
I then unpluged the amp and listened to the 6x9'*. They do it too, same thing, only it is not as noticeable because it is not being amplified again like the sub was. That is why the gain was down to MIN but the sub was still pounding!
Its a bummer that the amp is perfectly fine, but will get scrapped because they think it is bad. Maybe I will stuff a note in the box with it. I have to send this one back because I had to give the serial number to the tech so they could track it when it comes in so it does not hit the sheilf again. I have a RMA# too, so it has to go back. Bummer because it SLAMS! Who knows, maybe there IS something wrong with it.

Poor Poor amp.....
I have an idea for you... you should bypass your stock amp and run a linethru to your amp which amplifys the signal from your HU so it wouldnt get the shut off dealybober.... and you would get more gain control out of your amp with the line thru.... Audiobahn makes a good one for about 100 bucks and it is definatly worth it maybe you should check something like this out..
