Default Double DIN Is Done

Just got done with a double DIN install. Didn't have to trim the bezel at all with this unit. The HU is the Kenwood DPX-701 and it fits perfect in the dash opening! I used the PAC C2R-GM32R to keep the door chimes and RAP. It works good but the buzzer was a bit loud and abrasive so I put electrical tape over half of the hole the sound comes from to quite it down. I also installed a PAC SWI-ALP which works awesome. I kept the Bose amp and just used the remote turn on wire from the headunit to tap into the switched power wire to the Bose and it works and sounds great. Thanks Custom88 for the inspiration to put this HU in my Bonneville. BTW, sorry for the crappy pics. I think my digital camera might be the first one ever made and it SUCKS!

The stereo is awesome! Got it shipped to my door for around $285. I'm still figuring out how to use it though. There are so many settings and stuff to play with. I just found that my 20gb mp3 player works with the USB port on it so that made my day!

awesome! That looks great in your dash! I"m gald that it felt that well in the Bonneville as well. It fits even better than it did in my car. I love my DPX 701 as well.

I love it...... gimme the goodies... who what when where why etc .

Where did you get it... I find it on ebay and the adapter on ebay also. Is there somewhere else ?

Looks sweet... I have been embarrassed that my factory stereo sucks compared to my wife Pacifica. I need to be redeemed !

Give a guy the scoop so I can spank her system.

I bought EVERYTHING off eBay.... I'm sure you can find the components I used elsewhere but eBay is always easy.

Here'* a list of what I used and the price I paid before shipping:

Kenwood DPX-701 $270

Scosche GM1590B Double DIN Mounting Kit $5

PAC C2R-GM32R Databus Interface Module (if you want to keep your door chimes and RAP) $80
or
Scosche GM07B Ribbon Harness (if you don't care about keeping the door chimes and RAP) $5

Metra 40-VW10 Antenna Adapter $9

PAC SWI-ALP Steering Wheel Control Interface $50

There are still quite a few auctions on eBay with all of the components listed above.

I also installed the Sirius SIR-KEN1 satellite tuner at the same time. If you want to add Sirius I would recommend that you buy the tuner from a place like BestBuy or Crutchfield. From what I've found the earlier tuners had an issue with the display not showing correct channels at times or the display would only read "WAITING". I made the mistake of buying a new tuner off eBay but it was older stock and I now have this issue.

If you plan on keeping your factory Bose amp you can use the remote turn-on lead from the headunit to power up the amp. You just need to splice the turn-on wire with the PINK wire in the factory harness for the amp.

Also, if you go with the PAC SWI-ALP for the steering wheel controls, the pin # they list on the instructions for the Bonneville is wrong. The directions state the pin # is D8 on the DIM connector but it was actually A1. They also said the wire was either dark blue or light green"...:? It'* dark blue.

As far as the HU install, you will need to trim some of the plastic behind in the dash but from what I understand that is pretty much "normal" when in stalling an aftermarket HU. The DPX-701 comes with a trim piece that you will need "cut to fit". Just go slow and make small cuts and you won't have any problems.

Wish I could have taken some good pics of the install but like I said my digital cam SUCKS!!!

Remind me, what'* "RAP"?

I've been wanting to do a HU, but haven't pulled the trigger because of all the integration.

Having seen you do it gives me hope, and I'm uber-excited now.

Thanks, bud.

RAP is Retained Accessory Power

it is what keeps the radio on after the car is shut off until the door is opened
