Default "Monsoon" systems

I've asked about the Monsoon head units before, but now I want to know about the speakers. Anyone know about these? Would "Monsoon" 6x9'* compare to the Bose package ... i.e. would they be a step up from the non-Bose speakers in my Aurora? I may have a chance to grab some cheap if so.

the monsoon 6x9'* were intended to be used as a (sub)woofer only. They are not a full range speaker. I am not familiar with the non-bose system in the classic aurora. Are they just the front speakers and 6x9'*, or are there the fronts, speakers in the rear doors, and then 6x9'*? If you have speakers in all three of those locations then it would be an upgrade from the stock aurora speakers. If you only have speakers in the two locations I would look for a good set of aftermarket speakers. any aftermarket speaker will sound better than the monsoon/bose speakers. But if the price is right... you know what to do.

My standard non-Bose system is 6 speakers and very similar to the 96-99 Bonneville; round 5-6" speakers and 1" tweeters in the front doors, and 6x9" speakers in the rear deck. No separate amplifier, just whatever is built in to the factory head unit. I know that may be an issue too... trying to run Monsoon speakers without an amplifier may sound just as cruddy (since a true Monsoon system has a small auxilary amp).

I think the 96-99 front door speakers are 5.25 stock. What I don't know is if you can fit speakers bigger than 5.25 in the same hole.

My mom has the Monsoon Audio in her Vdub, and it'* all blown. Only the tweeters in the front, and the rear speakers work. Everything else is blown, and let met say, that my Bonneville'* [16 year old] system is 1,000x better, clearer, and fuller sound. That'* how bad it is. Don't get Monsoon speakers!

Monsoon makes great stuff. I have some planar speakers on my desktop by them.

Putting them in your car will be a PITA, hard to find parts, making up locations for them, etc. It'll be easier with new aftermarket stuff.
