Default help with my autopage rs-727 alarm self installation....

hi i installed my 2 way alarm with remote starter today and everything went great but
(there'* always a but) i could not get one particular thing to work. one of the most important. the door triger.. you no when you open the door it makes the interior light come on and alarm activate.. i had every color wire for the 95 bonevile printed out from www.bulldogsecurity.com so the install went great execpt the door triger wires.. when i connected the door triger wires from the alarm to the (supposed) door triger wires on the door it did not work. ... can someone out there in bc land please tell me they hooked up an alarm before and can tell me what wires they are for the door triger on my 95 bonneville..

the website says its the dark blue and white wires for the door trigger but when i connected the 2 wires from my alarm to the door triger wires it still did not activate the alarm when i opened my door and the remote showed me that the door was open even when it was closed and the alarm was activated.

my install manual tells me to take the green and violet colored wires from my alarm brain and connect them to the door harness trigger wires which it states are white and dark blue... there is 3 white wires in the door jam. 1 is already hooked up to my door unlock and unarm. and 1 of the other 2 white wires looks like it just loops back to the side its coming from so i figured the white wire for the door trigger was the only white wire left but i still cant get it to work.. can someone please help me as i do not want to pay the shop[ $250 just to hook up sme wires... thanks bonneville club...

Is the door trigger on your alarm positive or negative triggered? It'* showing to me, on Directechs (DEI'* installer'* webpage) that is is negative triggered. Did you test either of these wires before hooking them up??

my install manual does not say if its positive or negative triggered.. this is exactly what it says tho.... am i only supposed to connect one of these wires or both.? thanks

VIOLET WIRE- positive door switch sensing input.
this wire is the positive trigger input wire for positive door pin switch.
this wire is connection for "positive" type factory pins (typical ford motor) .
locate the common wire for all door pins and make the connection of the violet wire here.

GREEN WIRE- negative door switch sensing input.
this wire is the ground trigger input wire for negative door pin switch. this wire is connection for "grounding" type factory door pins locate the common wire that connects the door pin switches. make the connection of the green wire here.

i have a similar alarm on my 88 sse as well. its an autopage rs-725 and the one im installing on my 95 se is an autopage rs-727.
so i looked at the way the shop installed the alarm on my 88 sse to see how they did the door triger and i noticed that they tapped into the under the dash light located under the steering column by the fuse box.. so i was wondering if i can do it the same way on my 95 se? put the door trigger from the alarm tapped into the underdash light.
if its possible to do this then can someone please tell me how. what wire do i connect to it and what do i do with the other wire.? if you look in my previous post then you will see what wires im talking about... thanks

When you do an alarm install or a combo unit like yours, you only use 1 wire coming off of the unit, either postive or negative trigger (depending on the wiring in the vehicle) never both.

Some vehicles have a seperate wires from each door pin in which case you would have to diode isolate the wires so that your don't cause a short and fry the unit or screw the electrical in the vehicle.

In most cases you can usually find 1 wire that goes to the dome light that detects the signal from all the door pins.

I'm not 100% sure without consulting a wiring sheet but I believe that your vehicle should be like most imports & older GM'*, it should be a negative trigger.

So this means that when the doors are closed the door pins sit at neutral and 12 volts is allowed to back feed down the door pin wires from the 12 volt feed at the dome light.

When the door opens the door pin touches the chasis (Ground) and sends the ground signal to the dome light completing the circuit.

How to test the door pin wire(*):

With a DMM Black lead cliped onto ground (frame), Red lead on the wire you are testing.

All doors closed except drivers

With the drivers door opened should read 0 volts

Hold in on the door pin and the reading should go to 12 volts, if you have the correct wire.

Now repeat process with the other door pins (1 door at a time) with the drivers door closed, to verify that one wire will see the other doors opening.

The other method would be to go direct to the dome light and get the Ground feed from there OR you can go to the underdash light if equiped.

Good Luck,
Dutch

It doesnt have a 'door pin' per se, but it does have a switch in the door lock mechanism. You should be able to tap into the wires at the illuminated entry control module under the passenger kick panel. In an older system with door pins, the dome lights come on when a door is opened because lights are hardwired to 12V and the door pin connects to ground which allows current to flow through the circuit. The switches in your door do not carry current they are just a trigger for the illuminated entry. The problem with tapping into a dome light in a newer car is that the Illum. entry causes wierd things to happen when you hook it up to an alarm. The alarm is looking for a negative signal (ground) to tell it that the door is open. If I am correct, your dome lights dont go on and off when you open the door, they go on and stay on for a set amount of time before going out. Which means the alarm will only be set after the lights go out. I Believe that the lights are 'negatively triggered' therefore will work but you should keep that in mind. If you dont have the Factory Service Manual tapping into the illuminated entry might be a problem. You can also run new door pin switches if you really wanted to.

My bad I didn't know what year GM did away with the door pins, I thought I wasn't until more recently.

Is there a light in the hush panel under the dash ?
If so test it and see if that will work, this is a common place for a trigger hook up for alarms.

Phoenix is correct about the "Theatre lighting", delayed turn off on the dome light will cause problems for arming. So disregard my suggestion about going to the dome.

I checked on the 12volt.com and it says;
"White (-) Courtesy Light under Dash"

If this is not correct I can look it up next time I'm at work to see what the wiring sheets say.

With the gm cars ive seen, for the interior lighting the orange wire is almost always power, and white is almost always ground. Just test it and see what they read.
