a 00+ Bonnie radio would not work in a 97 anything, as it would never get the correct computer generated signal to turn the radio on when you click the key forward.

Another quesiton, have you tried doing the onboard diagnostics through OnStar?

...another thing I'm wondering now. The Buick Rendezvous is offered with what appears to be an identical GPS unit, and the vehicle can be equiped with the heads up display... thinking...maybe? I don't know that it will control the monsoon amp...but it would be kinda interesting to see the differences in the units.

Unfortunately the information I have on the '97 model year vehicles is extremely limited. I suspect it wouldn't. I wish I had a better answer, but I just don't have any experience with the LeSabre. Since my data is limited it makes it even more difficult for me to say for sure.

I contacted OnStar this morning to perform a vehicle diagnostic check. The operator told me the probe was successful and everything checked out fine - no diagnostic trouble codes were returned.

I was a little concerned to start as well since I didn't want to lose this functionality. Knowing what I do now about how different devices talk to each other over the class 2 serial data bus, it all makes sense.

No, there was no translation on the databus signals.

Here are links to the wiring for the adapter harness. It was late when I finished these but I did try and double check the accuracy of the information.

On another note, the backlighting for the buttons and disc opening consists of 17 LED'*. My next project will be to change these so it matches the rest of the instrument panel. These are all surface mount components so it will be a little more difficult.

Okay, project finished!

I've changed the LED'* used for backlighting. They now better match the rest of the instrument panel. Here'* a couple of night pics post modification.
