aftermarket head unit wiring harness
I have been in the market for a new head unit. I finally picked one out and then I found out that the wiring harness for my Bonne cost OVER $100.00 The radio I wanted to buy cost $300.00! After everything is said and done, I will be in the $500.00+ range! They said that if I went with a cheaper wiring harness, not only would I lose my OnStar(which I don't care to keep anyway) but I will lose my airbags and several other important peices. Does anyone have any advice? I am to the point now that I am considering buying a headunit for less than $200.00 and it will be mroe affordable to buy the harness.

you will not loose your airbags, the only things you may loose are on-star, and the chimes (door open key in ignition, low fuel, headlights on-engine off etc) When i installed mine, i hard wired it in on its own, i do not use one single strand of OEM wiring for my stereo.

I did the same as Toasty. The only difference was I used the factory ground, and constant wire, along with the illumination wire. You can find this Harness for $10 at Cardomain.

and this will be the antennae adapter you need.

Some GM vehicles from what I hear, do lose the airbags and other vital functions when removing the stock cd player. Fortunately, the Bonneville isn't one of those vehicles.

Do they have the expensive harnesses on ebay? I would love to do it "right" but if I can't for cheap, I will do it the other way

I dont think the plugs are gonna be any different in the back of the radio. Its the wires running away from the thing that has me concerned.

i am not positive, but i was under the impression that the OEM radio does NOT have a standard 12v turn on, but instead a low current signal from the data buss to turn on the radio, and if that is in fact the case, then a standard wire adapter will not work.
I COULD BE WRONG< i never spend much time thinking about or looking into it since my radio was already installed.>
My radio was in my car before any aftermarket solutions were even available, so i had no choice but to wire it from scratch, which was no big deal, since all of my speakers were to be amplified, and i was running wires to begin with.
