Default 2005 Impala aftermarket audio decks

Hey guys, just bought an 05' Chevy Impala LS. Its black with a sick tint and alloy wheels. I have a questions about what audio deck to put in. I am aware that the stock system can be used to reset the details in the car like gauges and check for system errors and such. My question is, if i install an aftermarket deck can i still utilize said features.

Also ... what type of decks should i be looking for. I have a sony cheapy now but i was thinking of trying an inexpensive touch screen with a NAV system. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

you will loose your adjustments for user selectable things and oil life monitor reset, but if you get the car how you want it before you change it you will be fine. the oil life monitor you can reset by turning the key to run and pressing the gas to the floor three times.

the sounds the car makes for doors, fuel, onstar if equiped goes through the radio and if you want to keep them you need to get the wiring adapter that retains those. if you dont care there are cheaper options. i got the non retaining dash kit and wiring adapter from ebay for 20 for my 07 monte, on my old monte, same as your car, i got the adapters free and the sound retention adapter from crutchfield. if you buy a hu from them they give you all the dash kits for free and the wiring for half. even half was over $50, now that ive done it the other way i think its nice not have the buzzers and junk.

as for what to get, cheap and touch screen nav dont go together. anything on crutchfield should be decent, thats were i buy everything, when you factor in the free adapters, shipping, customer service, etc. hu'* definately go by the saying you get what you pay for cheap is cheap, if you want more quality and good sound its not going to be a cheap unit

I thought with the newer GM'* you have to get a special wiring thing because of the OnStar or it won't work either.

Am I right or wrong?

if you have and want keep onstar you need the special adapter.

in addition on 00-05 imps, and montes and any other cars that have that radio, your buzzers go through the radio, if you want to keep them you would need it.

What year did OnStar start coming standard on GM'*?

I know my Bonne has it as an 02, but my 04 Silverado doesn't.

Thanks for the quick feedback guys ... helped a lot

my biggest concern is connecting my ipod up through the stereo lol
any suggestions on how to utilize the aux port on the back of the radio?

i have found some parts/adapters to connect to the system but am unsure if they work well or not.

Thanks again

I know there is a way you can hack into it, if you're talking about the stock unit that is.

Honestly though, there'* not much functionality you'll lose by replacing it. You'll just have to learn how to do things a different way if taking out the radio does affect it.

I think it was just in the last 2 or 3 years that it was standard.
